Type-R or Type-X?

Hey,

Just got my PDX-1.1000 and I'm actually waiting for some really good knukonceptz colossus fleks 4 gauge wires.

I actually have a Type-R but it's an old one and I've just broken hit, I've probably pushed my amp a little bit too much.

Here's the enclosure:

I cannot go bigger actually, it's in my Toyota Yaris hatchback trunk (which is really small). It's 10". I want it to be really loud. I've heard that Type-R's are louder than X's. Some others are saying X's are better than R's.

I know the X has better SQ. I've read some saying Type-R's can handle more than Type-X's even if rated at 500W only.

I don't care about the price (I know it's about $100 for a Type-R or $200 for a Type-X).

Which one I should buy? I want it to last at least one year, I'm listening to rap/hiphop/trance/dance/etc and I like it to be LOUD.

Thanks!

well there is one thing i do not understand. i was running my type-r woth an mrp-m350 which is 350w. with my new pdx 1000, i've just raised the gain to output around 500w or 31v at 2ohms. and it was a lot louder than before. how a type-x with 1000w cannot be louder than a single 500-600w R? that's what i'm having troubles to figure out.

i've always enjoyed Alpine products but i may take a look at the JL one too. but i wasn't planning to change my enclosure before summer. i'm just looking to replace that broken type-r, i will probably make a custom box next summer.

by the way i would like something that play deeper. maybe i would be better buying a 12'' sealed that would still fit my little trunk.

Do you mean because the Type X is rated for 1000w and Type R 500w? With double the power of coarse it will be louder...

You could put the 1000w to a Type R and it would take it just fine. Theoretically the X would be slightly louder since it has slightly more throw but in reality I think the difference in output would be small at the same power level.

You could definitely fit a 12" sub ported in a Yaris hatch btw and gain significant output...

i personally never heard the type X but i kno the Rs r more of an output sub n yes definitly handle more than they r rated, ive had my type R for a while now, definitly more than a year, i had 2 hooked up to a MA Audio hk2000D for about a year then the amp took a crap cuz i was makin frequencies n accidently had the volume for it set way to high n clipped the crap outta the amp n fried it then i put 1 on a kicker ZX750.1 for roughly 7 months n had the gains set high n was putin bout 800-850 watts RMS to it n now wit my aq2200 i got the R @ 2 ohms n i can turn the gain all the way up n go into clippin n play it for a while n i didnt smell anythin, i think @ 2 ohms its around 1300 watts RMS n i been beatin the crap outta that R for a month now wit that AQ amp, i just wouldnt go to much above double the rated RMS watts wit clippin but other than that the R should last a long time

1300W RMS to a Type-R? Oh well...

Is the new generation MUCH better than the one I had before? As soon as I've changed my MRP-M350 to that PDX-1.1000 and set the gain to output about 600W, it blew off.

In the long run, shouldn't a Type-X last longer than a Type-R when hooked up to a PDX-1.1000 with gain set close to max?

neither would "last longer" they should last forever if not abused.
fwiw, i love my type x. heard r's and they sound muddy in comparison.
1000W is obviously not an abuse for any Type-X, but it's still the double of the rated rms wattage for a Type-R.
