that box is only 1.05 cf internal not enough for a 12" x at all you need about 1.25 minumum imo

if your doing the x i would go sealed. they sound great and love sealed boxes. i had one in a 1.5 cf box and it loved it.

They actually just sell ported boxes for Alpine Type-R / Type-X. And it's the same enclosure for both models. Not sure it's really the best match.

Any good quality 1.25 to 1.5 ft^3 would do it?

i had 2 tpe r 10s with a hifonics zeus generation 11 that was craszyyy and they didnt blow but i upgraded to 2 12' L7s = D

the jlw7 boxes are 1.75 cubes at 32hz off ebay. although it's not ideal for the sub, it's better.

i personally never heard the type X but i kno the Rs r more of an output sub n yes definitly handle more than they r rated, ive had my type R for a while now, definitly more than a year, i had 2 hooked up to a MA Audio hk2000D for about a year then the amp took a crap cuz i was makin frequencies n accidently had the volume for it set way to high n clipped the crap outta the amp n fried it then i put 1 on a kicker ZX750.1 for roughly 7 months n had the gains set high n was putin bout 800-850 watts RMS to it n now wit my aq2200 i got the R @ 2 ohms n i can turn the gain all the way up n go into clippin n play it for a while n i didnt smell anythin, i think @ 2 ohms its around 1300 watts RMS n i been beatin the crap outta that R for a month now wit that AQ amp, i just wouldnt go to much above double the rated RMS watts wit clippin but other than that the R should last a long time

you have a lot of learning to do.

OP, i kinda did the opposite of you. i was running a pair of type-r 10s sealed with 600rms each and switched to a single X, 2.5cf tuned to 32, with a pdx 1.1000 and the difference is night and day. i say go for the X and port it if you can. if that means going with a 10 then so be it but you will be happier with the 12.
