Two Options: Which is optimal?

Hello again fellas,

I am buying a 1999 Camaro Coupe. This is not another "can I put a system in my car" thread, I know what I can do... It is mainly to get a hold on the best option out of two I can do with the system.

1) I can get the enclosure for two twelves seen here: http://www.subthump.com/acamarottop.htm

2) or I can fit a single 10, most likely the TC OEM 10 in this one (and install the amp rack as well): http://www.subthump.com/acamarostealth.htm

Here is where I am at, and where I am torn:

I already have the dual 12's (TC-1000s) and amp to power them (Mmats D1500.2). This was in my previous truck, and it was loud for me.

So If I went with option one, I could just get the box... amp and subs I already have. However, I am keeping he Camaro stock and the added weight and 100 percent loss of storage area makes me not want to do it, especially when mounting the amps on the only other storage location: the top rear deck.

If I went with the single 10, I would save weight, as well as keep storage area, all the while having room for the amp rack. (Even though side firing sucks). I'd go with this one usually (and I can use my existing amp as well) but I just do not know if I will be satisfied with a single 10 after being with a pair of ported 12's for so long. I am 100 percent torn on what to do, and am looking at some outside opinions on what to do.

One other main concern is the rear hatch with the pair of 12's... I know there are a lot of you on the forum with that style of set up with Maro's on here, and if you could tell me if the hatch rattles like crazy considering the firing direction etc of the subs that would be great.

Sorry for the long post. If you want me to put a summarized version of this in bullet form I will.

Thanks again!

I deadened the rear of my camaro, and it doesnt rattle much at all. It used to much more when before it was deadened. I even did the spoiler.

And i just put my t-tops in my back seat, they dont move too much back there. If you absolutely need space, do 1 10". If not, do the t-top box. Or, if you would rather keep you t-tops in the back seat, get a box like mine, because I personally think t-tops sticking out of a sub box looks goofy.

Thanks Chris (that is also my name hahaha)

Yeah I already had my SPL fun in my truck... I think I'd be ok with a single 10 this time around, I don't want to weigh it down at all. I might just go with a total SQ alignment.

Do the two 12's (or did they...I heard your Camaro isn't with us anymore //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif) get loud as heck in your ride?

Our cars can get loud //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I have two 12" db-500s in a 3.4cf box at 32 hz and it isn't too bad.

Hey man,

Do you have any pics of your system? How did you set it all up?

I'm still thinking of a single 10 to save storage space as well as save space for where the amps would have to go if I went dual 12's.

I am thinking of going with a milder set up this time lol, my current truck system can get ridiculous, but I am just really really afraid of going that route then down the road get that urge to go all out and spend more money on dual 12's etc. I have to remember I have to pay off the car too lol.

Yes they got loud...that back window does nothing but bounce the sound right at you. And who told you it wasnt with us anymore?

Also, you had the V6 right? Did the amount of weight slow it down much?

The only thing making me not want to go with my dual 12s is loss of storage space and where I'd have to install the amps (in the rear deck) as well as added weight.

Grrrr.

Does the dual 12 box just lay in the back? Aka you could take it out when needed?

Man I like the dual 12's box.. The option 1 setup and I think the TC's would do nice in it.. Havent heard a setup in a camaro but my GF's 85 ***** am has a hatch just like that.. Its jammed with 3 PA FUBARs sealed in a jl stealthbox pushed by a 1606 and it wangs real nice believe it or not.. I was impressed for the price I paid for it.. Rattling isnt terrible.. either.. but thats on a ***** am not a Camaro

I saw a thread of your car being totaled. Was I wrong?
It had a rod knock, and I have never posted that it was totaled. I dont know who said that, but it wasnt me. I still have my camaro.

And no, mine is a z28. The weight didnt change a whole lot as far as I can tell, but im sure it slowed it a little. I have no numbers to back that up, though.

And yes, it just sits in the rear well, and can be removed very easily.
Thanks for the input, and sorry, it was someone else's Camaro that got totaled.

I just read this on the website:

"Still some free space under the box for amps. About 9" deep by 32" wide in lower tub of well."

This is what I'd be down for. Freeing up the space on the rear deck where all the other people (via pics) put their amps would be baller.

Has anyone instralled/heard of anyone hiding the amps underneath the dual 12 box? I did not know there was any space in between the bottom of the trunk well and enclosure.

If you do not remove the t-top holder, there isnt too much space for more than one amp. And there will be zero airflow under the sub box, so you run the risk of your amps overheating and going into protect. I'd advise against putting amps down there.
