Tri-way should i or not

I am going to buy a kenwood h/u with 2 preamps (front and rear). I will also put a us acoustics 65 watt by 4 channel amplifier that will power four 6 and 1 half inch speakers, also putting on a triway to the rear speakers to power an 8 inch sub. I would like to know if that is a good way to do it?

ya, it's not a bad way to do it if a seperate amp is not an option , so long as your amp can handle it.

Any typical 2 ohm stereo stable amp can handle it as long as the 3rd speaker is 8 ohms.

It HAS to be 8 ohms (DVC 4 or SVC 8 works) unless you have a bad *** amp. If it's less than 8 the amp will see less than 2 ohms stereo.

Just look at the sub - (Assuming it's 8 ohms) if it's running in tri mode you're just running the sub from the bridged channels - since each channel effectively sees half the load that's the same thing as running in 4 ohms stereo. When you add to that the other two speakers already running in 4 ohms stereo - the result is your amp is seeing 2 ohms stereo.

If you drop that sub to 4 ohms that means your amp is already running at 2 ohms stereo and when you factor in the other 2 speakers you get a 1.33 ohm load on each channel.

I am buying a Kicker Comp VR 03CVR84 eight inch sub( 4 ohms) can be wired to eight ohms. Is this a good idea?

oh yea its a dual voice coil too.

Hold on man. You can run 4 speakers (2 on each side in parallel) from channels 1 & 2 of the amp, then bridge the other 2 channels to the sub. You just wont get fading between the 2 sets of 6.5's. You don't want to run 4 channels to separate speakers and then also use 2 of them for a sub. You won't be able to lowpass the sub, or adjust sub power independantly of the speakers. Bad idea.

you could use passive crossovers to block highs from subs and lows from mids and tweets, couldn't you CC

passive crossovers are never reccomended to be used on subwoofers... but yes, you could... or you could pick up a cheap active crossover to put inline.

Hey Wonderbread my manual that came with my usx-4065 recommends just that for triway config. They recommend a 15.9mH lowpass filter inductor for the sub and high pass passive crossover network for your satilite speakers. Now I'm no expert but the manual says. Also 8Ohm sub is required. it says a passive for the SATELLITE speakers (in other in cabin speakers... not the sub.
