To those that are ACTIVE or want to or plan to

I wanted to try a nicer pair of comps, ended up getting a nice deal on a pair of the mpyre's that are floating around. Soon I discovered I couldn't just throw them in and run it off a passive xover (noob). I ended up getting a nice deal on a 7100 and a pair of dynaudio md100's. Bought an older rockford amp to push my tweeters.

Honestly I'm not sure if I'm doing it right, but it sounds much, much better than my old setup. I wanted an eq anyways. Still cheaper than buying the pair of rainbow germs I wanted.

So I really did it for the option to mess around with mixed drivers.

Why restrict yourself to the very small handful of component sets that are bi-ampable, when you can use any speakers in the entire world to go active?
i just mentioned that because the subject of picking passive comps came up.

James, with proper deeadening and install and tuning, with my set up do you think I could compete? I've never been to a comp though. Closest thing was the DIYMA meets I've been to and some of those guys have done incredible things with their installs, speakers and tuning.

I would think one of the main benefits of entering a competition would be to get some good feedback from the judges and other competitors, not necessarly to win. Think of it as a healthy part of the process that you just cannot get from your buddies that will usually just tell you it sounds "awesome." //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Of course, if it sounds terrible then it could be pretty embarrassing.

JB here is banned form comp because of the extremeness of his sQueez.

There are a lot more bi-amp capable passive component sets than you you would think provided you know where to make the proper snips to add your other set of amplifier wires:laugh:
