time for a new car

I dont think the miata was built for the track lol, the ultima gtr, viper (track version), a hand full of porse gts and 911s were, not many street cars ever had the idea of hitting a track, just driving some overweight person around with a big mac and going to the supermarket hence the cup holders for your "purple drink".
I would stay away from the poorly engnered cars like the mazadas, vw, low end domestic stuff (i.e. anything that's not diesel or a vette/viper/gt40 etc).

A subie is a great car engineered very well

Honda and toyotas you really cant complain about, they are not anything special but they do seem to stay together even with the avrage person who doesnt take care of a car

If you want some flashy BS, get a slightly older diesel benz, there are some 90s and up diesel models that will get AWSOME miliage (on diesel, kersoine, wvo, svo, bio etc.)

You, sir, don't have the SLIGHTEST clue!

I think vw's are well engineered, at least versus stuff in the same price range.

Yeah benz diesels are a good idea but if you can't work on it yourself and have to pay for repairs the prices are astronomical.

I here ya. I would much rather have a Domestic, simply because the repairs are so much cheaper.
But as long as you do your research, buy the right car, and plan for repairs (since just about every car has it's own signature problems), you shouldn't have much trouble no matter what you get
That's the issue...my unfamiliarity with foreign cars...and my notion that they require a bunch of expensive computer diagnostic equipment. It could be unfounded, but it is what it is.

VW's are well engineered to an extent. The problem with them is they have to design everything themselves, and make everything different. You really have to know VW's to troubleshoot and fix a lot of their problems. And they have lots of minor problems. But the motors are strong, and they can be fast.

Definately check the lemonade book before you get too serious about anything.

Most German cars, yes, but from what I hear, most japanese cars are fairly easy to work on. Just have to do research and see what owners have to say on the issue.

Now if someone didn't have the time or knowledge to work on his own car, a domestic would be the way to go since repairs are so much cheaper

You don't know much about cars do you? The Miata/MX-5 has been a handling benchmark for years.
Uhhh maybe for street cars, but it sucks balls compared to a formula ford, or anything other then going on a track agenst a civic or some guys scion or whatever, not a gt1 class, or anything else... it's not a race car, sorry dont mean to rain on your pariade.

As far as riceboxes go I like the rx7 R, pulls 1g on the skidpad back in the day, still not a track car. These cars were intended to be sporty so people would buy them over x car, but the engneers did not think about how the car would handle on a track, not to mention all the bs extra emissions stuff, lack of roll cage/ harnesses, and just the generial configuration.

But then hey, aparently I dont know much about cars, so you go race your miata I look forward to watching the miatia races on espn.

VW's and other german cars are not hard to work on, the problem is to fix a simple problem you have to take half of the car apart. Other cars allow easy access to simple things, while german cars have a lot more steps you have to take to do those simple things.

As for a miata... not the best bang for the buck. base price is 22,000

You can get a speed3 for about 23,000 and imo it would outperform a miata and be more fun to drive. a wrx will run about 24,000 base price and will definitely outperfom any miata... straightline or around a track. They are impressive little cars, but not the marvel they once were. There are many cars that are much more practical and will outperform or perform very equivalent to what the miata can do. I'd rather have 4 doors and a real back seat for maybe 1 or 2k more....

Of course a production street car can't compete with purpose-built racers, but to say the engineers didn't think about handling or track capabilities is just retarded.

And //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif there are several races dedicated to the Miata/MX-5. There are four different SCCA classes that are miata-based

Stop talking, as you're an idiot.

There is NO person who is going to drive both the speed3 and Miata (or a Mazdaspeed Miata), and say the speed3 is a 'funner' car.

Want to know how I justify that?

Did you notice my name? loud3? I got rid of my 3 for the miata.

And the Miata is going to outperform the speed3 in the twisties, regardless of price point.

And the 3 was fully loaded.

But a speed3 is much more practical... and i haven't driven a miata but i've been in one while being driven and imo the 3 is more fun than the miata.. just my .02 not saying you have to agree... and really i was getting to the wrx because that will outperform your miata gauranteed.

The thing is, you're talking about cars you don't own, apparently haven't driven, and rely mostly on what you see on the internet (which is a whole different monster than actually seeing the sticker price and driving the car).

I'll take my Miata in a heartbeat... and I don't care to have backseats. That's why I have a daily driver, a 1996 Maxima.

Don't have to own a car to drive it my friend... and im just giving this guy my opinion just like you are giving him yours. This car is going to be his DD so maybe he needs a backseat... A miata may be a better choice for some... I was simply stating IN MY OPINION I would take a wrx over a miata any day! Don't know why you have to resort to flaming and such when I was simply giving MY OPINION (great thing about opinions is you don't have to agree with mine or anyone elses, and they don't have to agree with yours) but it doesn't make you wrong if in your opinion you prefer car a over b or vice versa... grow up!

Who was flaming? I just stated that you are talking about stuff you know nothing about. (which was proven to be a fact when you admitted to never sitting behind the wheel of a miata, even though you made a claim about them 'not being the marvel they once were', I would assume you had driven one...)

Sure, you can drive a car, but does that tell you if throttle response will start lacking after 5k miles? I'm saying that test driving a car doesn't make one an expert on the car.

You can say all day long that you don't like the miata, but when you start assuming that car A and car B are 'better' or will outperform it, then you're no longer in the int'l waters of 'offering an opinion', you're offering someone a bit of info, which may or may not be true.

Lets play a game... I will post a pic of a car and you tell me which of the two people you would imagine driving it...
