lol i dont know, Ed Lester needs to come in here and explain that, because i dont get it. He has an HHR also (10 Batts to i think but still) and he runs a hfonics 10k watt amp off of stock bat. :edit stock alty

HHR's are wired up so friggin wierd.

I bought a volt meter because i got scared of the no dimming. (maybe the batt is running low and the lights not dim because of some wierd electrical setup... idk wutever) and the volt meter is pretty steady at 13-13.8. Durring long bumps it taps into the mid to high 12's but still, i can deal with that and still no dimming? wierd..

Maybe they have a good size factory altenator or something? I don't know, some cars do better than others from the factory. 6 channel to go out to the amps
I am not sure how the h/u and the equalizer hook up... But i guess they dont hook up via RCa cables so scartch the 4 channel set. I only paid like 5 bux for em anyways.

I didnt initially have plans on buyng the equalizer, thats why i bought the 4 channel ones
You can go 6 channels from HU into the EQ (mids, tweets, sub) but I would do a 4 channel set and a 2 channel set to go out to the amps.

My HHR has a 90 amp alty. Good compared to older model cars. Ed's car should have a 125 amp alty in it.

Ed thinks there is a 250-300 alty being made for the hhrs late this year. If so, i will happily drop 3-400 for it.

I think this new setup shuld be ok since i am upgrading batt and only increasing by 500-700 watts. idk

I have an Aq 2200D, red top (group 34) up front, HC800 in the rear. I used a 300 amp ANL fuse for the front, a 300 at the batt, and a 250 on the power wire going to the amp. I truthfully don't know about fusing. I just always use 250 or 300s on 1/0 wire and 100-200 on 4 gauge. I also have a 200 amp ANL on my big 3. If too many can choke my deebeez, then that's what's going on now.

My car does have the stock alty which is 120A.

When I first got the car I had a XX Goliath 5000 connected to 1 Optima YellowTop. I had 0 dimming.

These cars actually have a computer controlled voltage regulator. Whe volyage dips past certain point like when the bass hits, the regulator instantly compensates by upping the voltage.

The regulator can actually put out up to 16v. and the factory battery location being in the rear helps alot.

Also, the headlights on these cars draw very little current.

I now am using an XXV Maxximus 10,000 and it will be powered by 8 PowerMaster D925s and 2 Kinetik HC2400s for now.

I will probably be getting the first or one of the first PowerMaster alternators for the HHR. it will be a 250A unit that will bolt right in. Should be available in 2 months or so.
