The do's and dont''s of my first wall....it seems like something isn't right....

Ok so i had to modify it slightly. Now the port is 24 inches deep and i had to shrink the depth of the wall to 25 instead of 28. That puts it at 30 cubes and if i shrink the port to 20 inches deep, and 14 tall that will give me a 34hz tuning...i was just messing around in torres with the tuning....I've got them wired up and ready to go. All i have left to do is put the back on, and seal around the outside on the back. And hook up my amps. I might have to mount my amps on the back of the wall....if i do what would be the absolute best way to do it?

Thank you slo_ride for the positive feedback! Yes It was most definitely a pita....I'm just about done with it. I have to put the back on in the morning and finish sealing it off and then I can start playing with it and figuring everything else out like where it's going to flex so I can brace it properly. I hooked them up earlier and played it on volume 10 for just a few seconds and it already seems alot louder than the first time. I obviously wasn't going to push them any further without putting the back on lol. So I will update in the morning with some more pictures if anyone cares to see the rest of it!

Avoid at all costs! Set it there temporarily, play loud, put your forehead to the amp then really think about how long it is likely to last.

Gotcha hispls....lol yes i put alot more thought into it this time like you guys told me to do...I've also been taking my time. And yes i started to round off the outside of the port. I was using my 2 1/2 flush trim bit to make the mounting holes the same cause i was off by just a hair on the alignment...and in the process the piece of **** bearing came off and i didnt realize it and i took a chunk out of it....so I dont know what im going to do now. Cause i really don't want to redo the baffle.
Yeah those get me often, you remember to tighten them frequently after a few of those bites. Bondo fixes that easily enough.

I have a question....i understand that what im asking does vary.....i know that rounding the port is always the best thing to do...i round off all the ports on the boxes i build for people....but on the mic how much do you usually gain from rounding it off as opposed to not rounding it.....ive never metered before so i was just curious.
Absolutely chaseinbass! I completely understand what you mean! And i wouldn't have a problem running two if i knew i wouldn't fry the coils. Because i can never seem to set my gains right when ive got like triple the amount of watts being pushed to them. I always hear about people pushing 3000 watts to a sub that takes 1300 rms and playing them daily with no problems.
Gains may be hit or miss but it'll look much cleaner. A roundover bit for the router or radial orbital sander will do.

When your box is efficient you won't be constantly trying to over-drive things to get good output, next step is learning what limits of your subs are and turning it down before you get into trouble. Learn how to recone your subs and find a good source for parts makes the learning curve a little less expensive.

Ok so i put in all my dimensions.....i did 60 wide x 40 tall x 28 deep and that puts me at 34 cubes....i did the port 29 wide x 18 tall x 26 deep and that gives me a 38hz tuning
My gut tells me it'll be tuning lower than you think. Remember, lowering tuning is far easier than raising.

Tuned in for pictures.

Yeah I'm not going to mount the amps to the back, that's just plain stupid, i domt even know why that thought crossed my mind lol. I've never done that and dont plan on it. Actually i do know how to recone subs! I havent been able to do a raw recone because the one time i tried it when i first got the meso's i fcked up the coil gap.....but i can definitely do drop-in's with no problems! And i was able to make the baffle work even though the flush trim bit ate at it a little...i was still able to get all the lag bolts in the wood for each hole. Oh and i just realized i had a typo....the port is 20 inches deep not 24 lol....torres says that its tuned to 39hz at the moment with 22 cubes per square inch with 522 square inches of port area. I assume that's right about where i want to be at? Lol hispls i agree tuning lower is far easier than tuning higher! I will update here in a minute with a couple pictures...gotta upload them to photobucket really quick! Thank you again hispls! And chaseinbass, jeffdachef, hertz mafia, slo_ride, lbetts!!! I cant thank you guys enough for helping me through this! I definitely couldn't have done it without your advice and critisizm and positive feedback! If you guys were local we'd be going to the petting zoo for sure! Haha .....pictures coming shortly!

That's a lot of port. I have four 18s and mines is 30cubes enclosure with 300" of port.

Yeah that's what i was thinking hertz.....i di plan on shrinking it straight out the gate though....if i drop it to 14 tall instead of 18 that gives 406 square inches of port area and 16.3 cubes of port area per inch.....does that sound better?

honestly man I never had luck with a lot of port area unless its a small tiny airspace enclosure but that becomes more like a burp box. You want medium port area. 406 sq inches still sounds like a fk ton. You arent gonna build up any pressure at all. But yes you can start off big and keep shrinking but i got a feeling you'll shrink the living sh*t out of that port before you get loud.

smaller port area works much much better unless you want a huge peak and serious roll off and bottoming

but it really depends on the sub and enclosure volume too. for whatever reason the team aa loves the port area while other subs struggled to keep up. if they're telling you its too much, its probably too much

if he had CT EXOs instead more port area might work but his remade mesos doesnt have enough displacement capabilities to warrant that much port area. Same with my hdc3s, after a certain amount of port area they just started losing output and cone control like crazy, no pressure built up in the box either.

Test it as is then shrink the port and test. Absolutely no way to tell without testing.

Where are those pictures?

True hispls....is it pretty easy to tell if they're bottoming out? Cause the first time i played them in the big box im not 100% sure they were actually bottoming out. I think it nay have been the wood flexing mkre than anything. And i forgot to upload the pictures earlier lol
