Tahoe Build?

ooh so I think I understand, 6 is type or meaning 6 inches? then the 1/2 or 1/4 is the inches, correct?
by the way so rms is what is the standard on the set watt but what does rms stand for and true meaning?

sorry i'm not so smart.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
RMS stands for 'Root Mean Square' and as yota said, this is what manufacturers rate them at to show what they can handle all day long without risk of damage. Yes, you can throw in excess of three times the RMS rating on a well-built subwoofer and still be safe so long as it's long as it's clean power (no clipped/distorted signals by cranking gains and/or 'bass boosters').

Thought i would throw in my 2 cents:

Personally i would go wih 2 12" Type R's

And i hope can buy off of ebay:

Subs: http://cgi.ebay.com/2-ALPINE-SWR-1242D-12-SUBWOOFERS-DUAL-4-OHM-NEW_W0QQitemZ250175438002QQihZ015QQcategoryZ18803QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

For amp go with cadence sound, they make amazing quality subs and jason, one of the guys who works there is an awesome guy. Also the amps come with a 2 year warranty!

To power the type r's go with this one: http://www.cadencestore.com/ProductCart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=125&idproduct=380

For box if you can not make your own they contact some people on this thread, from what i here they can make an awesome box for a low price too.

For front stage i would suggest not going with the type r's, from what i here they do not sound as good as they should. I would go with phoenix gold rsd's. Can get them for 87 bucks shipped on ebay

But you will want to check to see what size speakers your car fits. As for an amp for the comp's and possibly future rear fill go with this one from cadence:

http://www.cadencestore.com/ProductCart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=125&idproduct=385

But also check out some of the other amp suggestions. As for wiring check out KNUkonceptz, they make very cheap amp install kits but are all copper, meaning better quality.

Total cost roughly: $800

Just my two cents, and as for personal opinion, the type r's hit hard! I have them in a sedan and they are very clean and loud. My system is way louder than my friends 2 JL 10wV3.

Hope this helps

Mike

I'm planning on building a system for my truck. Its a Tahoe roughly going for 2000-2002. Could anyone place me a build, looking for quality, don't need a big enough boom with the sub woofer to be shacking my car to the point it feels like its going to collapse. My interest in music is techno, trance, country, rock. I heard the bigger the subwoofer the less of the time it gets to push? Like with trance or techno it has multi beats of rythm but my friend told me if its like a 16" or anything it might miss some, say if theres 12 beats in the 5 secs or what ever, itll only get about 4-7 of them..
What I need,

Amp

Front Speakers x2

Rear Speakers x2

Sub Woofer x1 - x3

Sub Woofer Case

I'm planning on sticking this in the rear of back seat on floor. I might bolt the case into the frame but have two metal washers then a rubber stopper in middle to have less of the truck shacking or box rattling.

I'm still learning about systems and would like to know more, but I would like someone to help me if they have a few minutes of their time to create me a system thats cheap but has crisp audio for speakers and the sub's to have enough kick. I'm actually not looking on spending a lot but my friend told me it'll cost a lot of get what I want.. Maybe someone could help me?

(My friend got subs from my friend and they sound like crap when he puts them really high and the treble sounds so off when he plays vocal techno or trance, or other types of music, and the bass doesn't seem to catch all the thumps for the beats it needs. Speakers rattle sometimes, its such a bother sum.

timinsk
didnt know there were 16" subs out there???

Could you suggest me just one amp. I could be wrong, since I'm still learning but I don't want to be cluttered with two amps and all the wires, having one amp so its easier to have one ground wire then a wire to the battery. By the way should I buy a battery and stick it in the truck in back with sub? Because I think it might better than leeching off my main battery thats with my truck.

Could I have other people suggest on the subs? Which would be better, just wandering, either have [ x2 12" ] or [ x1 15" ]. I want to know other people's reviews on the subs as well and hopefully the front speakers so I could understand others thoughts and opinions so I have a better idea on what I want to decide on.

Also wouldn't buying x2 12" cost me a bit for a case?

timinsk

EDITED--##

If anyone would, if and when I do buy this all, would help me how to set it up. :p Just wandering, maybe some steps, and also I'll take pictures and load them to show progress if needed to understand whats going on.

also off topic, but I saw under security there was a 115dB siren, whats dB and is 115 loud or doesn't the numbers don't determine loudness.

Could anyone also help me look for a 2-Din CD Reciever thats decent. I want to be able to control most of my settings from the front, so I can adjust the bass, treble, etc. I am going to use a mp3 player not an ipod to add to it, so I'll be needing a aux port if possible.

I'm reading about amps but they have 5 channels with like 50 watts x5 4 ohms, im like dead confused on what this all means... could anyone help me, I thought I need alot of watts to have it pump nice..

Fronts: PG RSD components $100

FR AMP: 2 or 4channel 50-75watts rms - $100ish

Subs: 2 DD 515's or 1512's - $200 to $275

Sub amp: Hifonics 1606D @ 2ohm- $225ish Used

Box: 4cuft at 32hz will work swell (check local shop)- $125ish

Wiring: Knukonceptz or Kicker 4ga kit or lower Gauge - Depens on kit

Headunit: Pioneer deh-49000 or higher series- $200

There you go.. should rockout
