Yes, it will work....use a 12v battery charger full time and it'll keep it charged pretty well as long as the system isn't more then like 500w. Ground goes to ground, positive positve. the only point to ground on metal in a car is so 1000 wires don't have to be used to ground to the battery from all over the car.
