I think most chargers, charge in a pulse. So if you were to hook up the charger and amp to the battery, you might hear a buzzing or pulsing sound.

battery holds the main charge and will run for a few hours without loosing much power hopefully... the charger is just to keep it from completely dying and so its charged up for next time you crank it.. the 12 volt charger is in no way the main source of power for the amp.
