System for F150. Opinions/Advice

I am looking to spend about 1000 total for a new stereo system in my 2006 F150 STX, regular cab.

I think I am going to go with the MTX Thunderform enclosure because it saves alot of space. I can get that for 200 (unloaded) at a local audio shop.

-I want 2 12" subs what will sound decent and work well with the Thunderform.

-A amp to power these two subs.

-Head Unit that is ipod ready and can power 4 door speakers.

- 2 sets of 6x9 speakers for front and rear doors.

I am new to car audio and really do not know much about good, cheap, items.

Like I said my budget is about 1000, maybe slightly over. I might be willing to buy used/refurb if the deal is good enough.

Any suggestions would be great.

Best thing to do is shop around on the classified forum or hit Ebay. Find a couple decent kicker or mtx 12's for a good price...look for a decent amp with at least 100w per channel..hopefully closer to 200. For 6x9's i would first check crutchfield and see what they say as far as which speakers will fit...pick a few models you like then try and find said models on ebay. While you may find them for 150 bucks at other stores..you might find them for 50 bucks on ebay. Also you can get a decent headunit at circuit city or even a local stereo shop for under 250. Just do your homework and shop around.

This is what I thinking so far.

MTX Thunderform Enclosure for 06 F150 Reg Cab

(2X) 12" Kicker CompVrs 2 ohms

Hifonics 1606d

Kenwood Excelon X990.

Now thats already over my original budget but I think its a good set up.

Now I would really like to get some comp 6.5s for doors but I think for now I am going to get some decent 6x8s and run them off the HU. Then in the future I will get some comps up front and an amp for them.

Sounds good to me....shop around for an amp...might find one used for half the price.

The Thunderform is ok...your not going to be winning any soundoff's with it...but for what you want theres not a **** thing wrong with it.

Yea lol ok...not trying to win a competition.

If I had an extended cab truck I would have the back seat to work with but with the space I have there not alot of options for boxes like those with trunks.

Yeah i know what ya mean. I used to have an 01 Lightning..at least yours has the added space behind the seats.That thunder form will do you well.
