Sub sound problem

if u hook up ur subs to a battery , even a AA you should be able to push on it without hearing scratching noises... do this for both voice coils

might be...but also its just because its a shitty head unit i guess cause i had a shitty head unit that did the same thing...im not sure what the pioneer avic is but i had like a temporary one and it would cut out n shit...then i replaced it with my premier and it doesnt do it anymore..

Im kinda confused... i took the sub out and saw no visible damage... does that mean its not blown? What else would make my sub sound shitty? My thinking is that something happend when i got my new HU. I had a nice alpine before and never had a problem. Now i have the pioneer avic-d2 which is a double din navi system. It seems to be every bit as good as the alpine but maybe something got messed up in the wiring in the install??

hook up a different HU, and if the problem is gone, it's your HU. You have to go through the system, and check every component until you find the problem. You can't just ask vague questions on an online forum and expect everyone to know what is going on. We can help out by telling you how to figure out what the problem is, which several people have done already. Now it's up to you to actually do the work and figure out where the problem is ocurring.

Step 1: Get sub tested at a local shop. It's a cheap, easy way to figure out if your sub is the problem.

Step 2: Switch out the HU and see if the problem persists. If it stops, you have a faulty HU.

Keep going through your system and testing the different components like this, and you will eventually find the problem.

I'd switch back to the old HU & see if that solves it, otherwise you've just got to go piece-by-piece & eliminate possibilities.

Ok i understand... but just b/c i on here and have decent knowledge doesnt mean i have the tools or know how to check everything from the bottom up. So ill go to the shop who installed the HU and have them check it out and hopefully they can check the sub too.

Ok i understand... but just b/c i on here and have decent knowledge doesnt mean i have the tools or know how to check everything from the bottom up. So ill go to the shop who installed the HU and have them check it out and hopefully they can check the sub too.

The HU part is easy. Just swap it back out for your old HU, and see if it solves the problem. If you don't have the old HU, swap it for a buddy's or something. The amp and sub can be tested by your audio shop, aand they usually don't charge much. My audio shop charged me $5 bucks an amp for testing.

Update...

I pulled the sub out of the box and tested both VC's with my amp and they both seemed to play fine. No cuts in or out and the bass sounded good. Obviously the volume was very low and i adjusted the gain so to not damage the sub. Now im really confused.

I cant check the HU b/c i dont have the old one anymore and even if i did i wouldnt go into taking out that d2 navi... its much more involved than a basic HU

Ill check to see if maybe the wiring was loose or something in the box but it seemed fine when i pulled it out.

Go through and check all your power, ground, and speaker wire. You may just be grounding out or something simple. Just make sure all your connections are absolutely solid, and that you are grounding to bare metal.

i checked all the wiring from the amp to sub. Inside the box, to the amp and the amp connections. The amp is grounded fine just as it has been. I've had this setup for the last 2 years and the only change has been the new Pioneer avic-d2 navigation which ive only had a few weeks. Could i almost assume the problem is on that end? Is there anything else i can check before i go to the place i had the HU installed to have it checked??

If every other part of the install has remained the same since before you got the new HU, then that is most likely the problem. I would go and have the shop check it. Since they install it they should fix it with no extra cost. If they don't I'd start looking for a new audio shop.

No i know what you are talking about but that only checks if the voice coils are getting power like the tinsels n shit now to check if its blown...right?
