Sub Sonic Filter??

If i were to tune a box low 22 hz would i need a ssf? What if i were to tune it to 25 hertz? I'm trying to build a SQ box for a friend of mine and his amp doesn't have a sub sonic filter, i don't want him to blow it so i'm trying to do the do.

I was asking the same question not too long ago and most people said I could go up to 30 hz, maybe a little more.

Personaly I would stay below 30hz. Try a tunning of 27hz. If you go any lower, your wasting output and might as well go sealed.

My current box is tuned to that, it's an excellent compromise...I don't think you'd be disappointed with the SQ.

Well I play 100% rap.. So do you think I'll be allright? I was thinking of getting a pair of THESE , worth it?

Right now I have a pair of Audiobahn subs, which I could kinda care less if they blow. But would that be a good investment for when I upgrade my subs, (possibly to Type Rs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif )

i like my audiocontrol EQX. not only is it an equalizer its a crossover and SSF in one unit!! and the crossover and SSF are not controlled by knobs.. instead, a certain resistor yields a certain frequency crossover point. for instance, i plugged in 100k ohm resistors into my EQX to get a crossover frequency of 72hz. i plugged in 300k ohm resistors to set the SSF at 24 hz (my box is tuned to 32hz).. COOL!!!!!

SSF's are for noobs. Know your subwoofers mechanical/thermal limits, don't over power it, don't be a gain/volume master, and you're fine. I haven't used an SSF in nearly 3 years...

Also, in-car...I wouldn't tune any lower than 28hz...it's useless. A box is SQ-wise good to half an octave below tuning. So, the 28hz box would be good to around 21hz. Not too much music extends to 20hz very often, even rap...it'll be mid 30's on low-notes. peace
