sub playing music and lyrics

I once heard that if your sub plays music and lyrics as opposed to just the lows then there is a problem with the wiring. Im just checking because i do not want to hurt my subs. Can anybody help me?

It would be the low pass filter on the amp or HU not set properly. You want it around 80Hz to filter out the highs/vocals...

agreed if its the low pass is not set, then it will go to full range and try to play everything and not just sub frequencies

You wont hurt the speakers if you have them playing full range, but it definitely won't sound optimal.

Question about LPF and HPF

I have both LPF (for sub) and HPF (for speakers) at 80hz

Does that sound legit?

Sooooo, because the driver's frequency response naturally rolls off, that equals distortion? Hahahaha thats funny.

Thats like saying my 7" mid ranges shouldn't play above 5khz, because thats when they start to roll off, so anything above that is just distortion and will blow the drivers.

80s a good starting point, but if you can get away with something like 63hz thats good as well. By possible, I mean can your front stage play down that low cleanly and with some "umph?"
