Sub output is much greater when used with a processor (xover/eq)

Topic: Curious about using this as a line driver....

Since my Memphis xover took a crap, I've been running my RF 800a4 amp directly off of my head unit's RCA outs. The sub's output dropped drastically even though I did not touch the gain on the amp! I have a Kenwood EQ that I don't use anymore, but it's still installed. It sux cuz if you use the sub outs then you have no choice but using the 100hz high pass on the other two outputs.

For the hell of it I am running my fronts directly from the h/u and I hooked up just the sub RCAs to the sub output on the crossover:

Even though there is no voltage booster indicated in the owner's manual, although the sub output has gone up soooo much.... seems like it's almost doubled in output. Could anyone shed some light on this topic?

Thanks!
