sub making a continuous tone when rcas r hooked up

hi i have a pioneer deh-p3600 hooked up in a toyota sienna 1998 everything works fine apart from it being a complete hassle to get the head unit hooked up... but now i have an issue with the sub im trying to hook up.. mind u it is a home audio sub... i had it hooked up to a sony head unit in a mazada truck and it work perfectly fine but now im trying to hook it up to the pioneer and it is just emitting this continuous tone when the rca's are hooked up.. can anyone help me or could it just possibly be something wrong with the head unit... thanx

Are your rca's run on the same side as your power wire? If so run them on the other side of the vehicle.

It usually makes that noise when the amp is on and you insert an RCA in half-way...toy around with the rca's and the inputs, see what happens.

It's a bad ground or bad amp most likely. It could also be bad rcas. The easiest way to tell is to try different rcas. Don't pull the other ones out and run new ones unless you know the ones you have are bad. Then don't run the new in the same place as the old. Something broke them, and that was probably it. Next, if that didn't solve it, swap amps. If that doesn't solve it, it has to be your grounds.

that has zero effect on noise. it's the age old concern, and even in the installation rules in IASCA they require you separate them.

But there is no EMI on the 12 VDC power wire that would induce noise in RCA's. Noise is the result of poor grounding, cheap equipment, or broken equipment.

The OP's problem is the well known issue with ALL Pioneer head units - the small diode on the RCA shield has popped. You need to ground the RCA shield to solve your noise issue. This link summarizes the solution:

Either your grounds messed up, the rca's aren't plugged in all the way, or a power signal is messing them up (like if you ran them down the same side as your power wire.

Sounds like the classic Pioneer issue. You can try grounding the shield of the RCA's as suggested but that didn't work for me...I ended up just getting a new HU
