Sub keeps burning out

haha, it's a pre-loaded enclosure with led accent lighting.....not a powerd sub unit. it needs an amp, or really good deck ;D infinity subs can cook pretty easily. most subs with a 1:4 peak:rms, rather than 1:2, are........ my money is on the fact that the loose power wire was causing voltage drops, clipping, and just too much heat. i would show them the loose cable, get my new sub replacement, and tighten the wire myself, rather than risk the idiots stripping the screw. oh, and about that kicker, if you are talking about 1/2 the power rating as being 600watts, that doesn't make the sub any less. as a rule of thumb, you want to rate everything on continuous power. there are 2 ways to rate max power. one, the standard, is maximum nonsustaining musical power, and the other is short bursts (burps), which can be much higher. the instantaneous bursts, means that any more and the coil wire will pop like a fuse, and the short period musical rating is based on heat build-up, which can burn the adhesive. long story short, get your new sub for the last time, and head over to a reputable shop and have them show you how to tune it, and recognize distortion/clipping, so it doesn't happen again.
