Sub is fried, amp is overheating, don't know what caused this.

How close to the opening of your trunk is the amp? I have mine on top of my box just past the opening so nothing can fall on it, thats what I would say you should do in the future, or even mount it to your back seat like I originally had.

The amp is literally in the middle of the trunk, pretty close to the trunk opening only because the ground wire is pretty short and the only ground we could find was closer to the opening of the trunk than on top of the subs.

I appreciate the advice though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I may try mounting it somewhere inside the car once i get some new subs.

Well then I'd say try mounting it further back, take up some carpet near the fold down of your seats (if they do) then sand it down, use a self tapping screw and there's your new ground, further inside your car.

Sounds like the wiring configuration may have been wrong, but amp level seems pretty high, and Clipping could have been a factor, along with banging the S H I T out of it with no air circulation also, ect,Bad Install/Fail.Get your amp tested, to see if its fine, and actually pull the subs out, and check the wiring configuration, and check the info on the sub magnet see what ohms they are see if you wired them correctly.Maybe you will smell the damaged woofer by then/find an issue there.Get the amp tested out at a local shop with a meter, to rule it out..prob wouldnt cost more than $30,some charge nothing at all.Pull your subs out of that Box you got, check them out.Read up on here on setting your gains, ect.,and ask questions if needed.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

This is most likely a wiring issue. Either the sub (accidentally wired the coils wrong, one came loose) or a bad ground caused alot of heat.

The amp is probably fine.. they're tough

Ah, also, if you did get snow on the amp and wiring, then it could be a huge problem.

I live in MN also and don't open my trunk in the winter unless its clear

Yup, I definitely got snow on the amp, but I guess I didn't think it would affect the amp for some reason? Maybe cause it is almost a grand new haha... I am just going to go to Best Buy to get the amp tested.

The ground was fine.

The subs are Alpine Type R SWR-1242d's.

Bad air circulation was probably another reason why the sub blew.

Yeah it's definitely the amp that was smoking, so I just got the amp tested at Best Buy and it's definitely broken... and the one Type R is fried.

Basically I am F U C K E D //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
