Sub edge to wall

What do you consider the minimum from the sub edge (where the screws are) to the wall. I have 16-17.5" available in height. The average cutout is 14.xxx add .5inch for the screws and that leaves about 16 for total. Is 17.5 enough?

I mean like the distance from the edge of the sub to the edge of the box. Such as the sub doesn't screw down very good because it is near the edge of the box.

I would assume having such a tight fit would also hurt sound.

So like the left or right edge? It shouldn't do anything bad to the output or sound quality.

The top and the bottom. I got plenty of width and depth.

As long as it's screwed down well it'll work fine.

yea it dont make a difference. i put a 12 in a 12 inch box, where the front baffle was cut into 2 pieces, and the mounting screws went into the top and bottom of the box. No issues at all.
