Sub died... 6 12's?

Well... Finished building a slot ported, 4.2cf enclosure tuned to 29hz for a single Kicker CVR 15. Couple days later the CVR is done for, so I'm looking to do something new.

So I'm looking for a few opinions on my thoughts for my next build.

My amplifier is 1 OHM stable, putting out around 1,800 rms.

I liked the way the single sub setup sounded, but I've always liked seeing multiple subs banging together. So I was figuring for my next setup, I would like to go with 6 12's. Love seeing 4 or more woofers working in unison.

With the power I got to play with, the space I got and the budget I'm trying to stick to, I was thinking of going with the RE Audio rex12d4.

About 60 bucks a piece, 175 Watt rms. So it won't kill my budget. Would be going with the dvc 4 ohm, 6 drivers to see a 1 ohm load. So they would be getting about 300 rms each.

Was thinking going with a sealed enclosure. 2 enclosures (to ensure getting them in my.trunk opening) each one housing 3 woofers, shared chamber, 2.25cf after displacement and adequate bracing. Fitting with the recommended size of .75cf per driver. So the 6 in a total of 4.5cf sealed, all firing upwards in the trunk of a 2005 Bonneville.

I know these are low power woofers, but can I really go wrong with roughly 670 inches of cone area?

Would like a few opinions. Am I wrong in thinking this would provide some SQ while still being able to get decently loud? Would I be overpowering to much? Would the such low power drivers be a let down output wise even with all that cone area?

I listen to rap/dubstep mostly, with some rock thrown in.

Any input would be appreciated!

I would first try and figure out why your first sub died. How did you set your gain? On topic, what vehicle is this going in??? Likely there are better options than 6 12s in 2 sealed boxes in a trunk.

The cvr 15 that died was just pushed a little to hard for its age. It was the old brownish and black in the center cvr. Got them new, and bumped two of them for years on almost double their rms. I still got the other cvr laying around in fine condition.

I just love to see multiple subs working in unison. So with the power I got, the small box requirements and the price, is why I selected the 6 Rex's.

Its going in a 2005 Bonneville.

Long ago I had six Orion cobalt tens, in three sealed dual-sub prefabs, on a Orion 2150 hcca. Didn't sound bad, despite the enclosures, lol

I'm really just questioning my driver selection. Been doing allot of reading and it seems universally accepted that RE Audio has took a dive in terms.of quality since the buyout. And with the Rex being their entry level woofer, it just has me wondering.

Can I really go wrong with this much cone area?

Should it not put out good sq while still beig able to put out the dragging baselines in rap/dubstep?

With the power, cone area and sealed enclosure it should be very tight and punchy while still getting loud and deep on heavy long bass, correct?

I can't find anything about this brand on the net. Have you personal experience with them?

At 700rms each they would be severely under powered. And I worry about the enclosure. The Rex is .75cf max recommended for sealed. These are 1 cube minimum sealed. Running the minimum sealed recommendation and being under powered, would you still recommended them over the RE audio Rex?

With 6 drivers my amp will give them about 300 each.

I thank you for your guys input.

Recently had to sell off my kx1200.1's due to unforeseen events. So the pa is what I got left.

They are over rated, advertised at 3,200 @ 1 ohm i believe. But I'm sure its just under 2k actual.

This is not what Webbie was talking about when he said he had six 12s

If you can suggest 12's for about 350 for the pair to do it... I'm open to ideas.

4.2 cf for one single CVR 15 is too big dude, maybe that's why it went out since the suspension is nice and soft from years of use? Anyway... 6 12s sounds like a cool plan, should be loud.
I believe your right. I've had the cvrs so long and they did me good. Knew they had to be near the end though, so figured I'd pull em both out, take one, go big and tune low and enjoy what life it had left. Just didn't think it would be 2 days later haha. It did sound great for those two days tho XD

Thanks for the suggestion. Checked them out and don't look to bad. Honestly though, you think 2 of them would out perform 6 low power 12's. Seems like the advantage of all that cone area just wouldn't be comparable. But that's why I am here. To learn a thing or two and get loud in the end.
