sub break in?????

so if i run my cvx 15 on 1000 rms i can just turn it up??
What is a speaker's "break-in period"? Its the time when a new speaker's soft suspension parts loosen up to their nominal operating compliance.
So..... what does this mean? It means when the speaker is new, the suspension will be more stiff, and the speaker will be harder to bottom out. So why would turning up the volume hurt the speaker?

The answer is it wont hurt it.

Jesus christ can you not comprehend what was said? YES.

well i researched like 8 different sites and they all said to keep it at low volume for 20 hours, so i figured id make sure and ask the ppl who really know (you guys)

hahaha man you are so **** funny, well i guess thats it for me, im done with car audio for good, now actually you say these things but this forum is meant to help new ppl with general info not to treat everyone like garbage, your pathetic dude
negative.

you brought this onto yourself. it's dumb questions with dumb response from the OP himself to properly responded old, dumb, mass searchable questions that brings this load of sarcasim to be posted.

If you are going to be doing a critical listening session, like to review the speaker, then yes you'd want to loosen up the suspension first. Some subs will have more of an audible change when their suspension loosens up than others.
But for most of us not doing a sound review for a magazine or website, we can just start using the subs normally. Over time their suspension will loosen up, and the subs will likely change slightly. But no real consideration to the speaker's health needs to be applied over the normal precautions you would take (setting gains correctly, xovers, etc).

ohhh i see, thank you, and i apologize

I get what your saying OP, but honestly I wasn't being a smart ***. Just play it within its rated power and you will be fine. None of the keep the volume low for XX number of hours. You will hear a difference in time.

Think of it another way. If you keep the sub turned down it will only break in to the max that you turned it up, can ya digg?

When you buy a sub at a audio shop, they usually tell you to not turn it up loud for a few weeks to let it "break in". They have no idea what they're talking about in that aspect, because they only do that so you don't go crazy with your gains and blow your sub on the first day. Driver break in is based almost entirely on loosening up of the suspension of the driver. Blasting it the first day doesn't affect anything, but the sound can change as the suspension gets more supple. Amplifier and interconnect break in, however, is a complete crock and makes audiophiles look retarded.

cool, i get it now thanks and sorry for losing my cool and blowin my stack, my bad //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
