sub basket facing out?

ive seen and heard talk of installing subs in a sealed box with the baskets facing out. what advantage, if any, is there to doing this?

People pretty much invert subs in sealed boxes because they think it looks cool. I've heard setups both ways and the bass is much better with the subs facing the normal way.
