sub barely audible

Truthfully it was not really a good product / solution to anyway.

I think you should buy a amp' date=' subwoofer , wiring, and a box - it is not that hard and you will have something that would sound good for a long time.

A $200 budget would be decent

It could be done for less but not worth it IMO

A $300 budget would get you something that you would really be happy with.

So what do you think would be best for you?[/quote']

It is in a small reg cab pickup. I didn't want anything pounding, just something to fill out the lower end. This was a good option because of how little space it took up.

If the unit is really broken, I will probably pull it apart and have a look.

I wish there was a more conclusive test I could do.

Well there are more test you can do.

Either the internal amp or the sub is broken.

If you want it would not be hard to either replace the bad sub with a new one or replace the amp with an external one.

Do you have a DMM (multi-meter)?

Yes, I know how to use it.

The resistance across the sub's terminals was about 5.8ohms on either side. Though I don't trust my dmm for small ohm values that much.

I made a video so that people can give me opinions on whether it's how loud it's supposed to be. I know video is a crappy way to gauge loudness, so hopefully you can contrast with my voice.

This is with every setting maxed out.

It draws average of 5 amps.

This is with every setting maxed out. And it is not connected to the head unit; it is connected to my laptop with the headphone jack > rca cables.

most likely the amp in the box is bad.

However it really just isn't worth trying to make work.

You would be 10x happier with this setup

Kicker 10" Loaded Truck Sub Box 4 Ohm (10C10-4) - 110TRUCK_10C10-4-N

Single-10-Inch-110TRUCK_10C10-4-N-detailed-image.jpg

and a cheap $50 amp. I have sold 2 amps in the last year or so that would have worked good for you both for less than $50 each.

Buy that kicker box from above and post a WTB in the classifieds here on this site for a cheap amp and you will be much happier.

You got a dead horse there and it wasn't even a good horse when it was alive.

It ***** that you wasted your money on that setup but take it as a lesson learned.
