Im looking for a set up to run in my tahoe that hits the lows nicely and sounds loud to the ear. The two set ups I have in mine are listed below. Both will have around 1k going to them depending how they take it.

1st up:

18" Fi SSD in 5 Cu ft with around 72 sq of port area tunned to 33hz

About 1k RMS

2nd:

2 Powerbase PB-B1564's. Below is my box options:

Green- Ported

Red- Isobaric ported

Yellow- Sealed

The Isobaric box seems to get loudest and peakes at the lowest frequancy but I heard it takes about twice the power to get as loud. Both ported boxs use 2 4" Aero's and would be 5 cu ft, the sealed would be 3cu ft.

I am a little un easy about the PB-B1564's because they are cheap and I see no one runs them, but read they are equivlent to a Memphis PR. Also I would be overpowering them quite abit. I know the Fi will take the power, but will the higher cone area of 2 15"s help?

my understanding of ISO setups are that they are manly geared for using the smallest box possable. take twice the power since you are doubling the amount of woofers. however, you will not gain that much in sound, but you will gain a little more SQ.

So a standard ported set up will do fine?

with todays subs, iso's are not used to often. although i know spy is doing one right now. but if your just looking to get loud, then iso is def not what you are looking for.
Im looking to get pretty **** loud off a pretty small budget. My goal is around 140's. Get a nice hair trick going. I want to move alot of air.

They, meaning isobaric setups, were quite common in the early 90s though when you had highly efficient subwoofers but couldn't find 3,000 watt RMS 12 volt amps:eek:

yea, between that, and most subs of that era did not do well in small boxes like alot of them today.

No shit! IIRC, the 10" Kicker Competitions that I ran from 1993 to 1996 required about 1.25 cubic feet sealed per 10 minimum. They didn't sound that bad run off of a Punch 150 though. What do most 10s sound good off of now? Somewhere between .5 and .75 cubic feet?

I would go with the 18" Fi SSD over the two 2 Powerbass PB-B1564's, and that is mainly because the Powerbass brand doesn't do anything for me. Granted, I would think that two ported 15s would move more air than a single ported 18, so if SPL is all you care about, then go with the Powerbass subs.

Thanks. Thats my internal problem too. Anyone else?
