SQ Subwoofer

I'm not looking to do JL or change my size in subwoofer. The cost of getting a new JL 8w7 I could have a new sundown SA8 with custom ported box. So I'm sticking with just a single 8 and going by those dimensions
True SQ costs more, there's no doubt about that. I Love JL, but their pricing structure is something I wish they would change. Especially since they haven't updated any of these in like 10 years. That said, any of he high quality Subs will cost a lot more than the Alpines, Sundown, and DB's. There's several high end brands in Europe for example that are very similar in pricing to JL.

Europe has far more focus on SQ than the US Car Audio market does. US fans have always focused on SPL in both design, sales, and competition. But for SPL you focus on how much air you can push per Watt of power used, and how much wattage you can sustain thru VC Cooling techniques. SQ requires more precise control of the cone both in remaining linear thru its full extension and also the speed in which you can stop the cone preventing residual vibration. And that's honestly harder to do than high SPL is.

I'll say this before I leave off on JL. Their Subs, especially the W6 & W7s hold up for a long time as long as they're not mistreated (left outside or in a very hot storage unit where it dries out for example). That's why there's a Big used JL equipment market. So if you ever want to try one of their Subs the used market isn't a bad way to go when you're ready to step up to a higher quality musical driver.

The Hertz MP300 kills the W6 in SQ, if you like SQ go Hertz.

I'm an old school Car Audio enthusiast who got out of the hobby (only out of lack of funds) for a while but I'm coming back. Hertz wasn't around so I haven't listened to them yet. When I'm ready to start building I'll be doing a lot of listening sessions to Hertz, Morel, Audio frog, etc before deciding on speakers for myself

I'm thinking about doing the sundown sd4 8 sealed. But it's in the back of my head that it won't be enough. Would the box links I posted be a good box design for a single sundown SA8

Acura RDX. I want to keep it small as possible for box. Will get amp once I decide on subwoofer. But it will be 300 to 500rms. Was also considering the sundown E8v6
I dont see the point of getting a SQ subwoofer for this vehicle on 300-500 watts without doing some kind of deadening a prepping, with all the plastics and road noise issues involved in that small SUV. I would look at a Dayton HO 10 for the 1.0 cu ft that it needs to serve. Thats just me. I cant justify spending $300-600 on a sub with that amount of power and expect to get any type of SQ without doing some prepping and deadening to justify the cause.

I would go with a 10" sub. This is a decent deal with an enclosure .. and it comes with a 5yr warranty for the sub.Its not going to rattle your teeth up front , but will fill the cabin with some nice bass response. Its a DVC4 ohm sub, so you will need a decent 2 ohm mono amp for it to shine

OK, this is seriously painful.

I've got a 10w6v2 I'll offer up for you. I just re-foamed it, and I'll ship it in the enclosure I have for it. I need it for another week or so to run some RTA sweeps in my jetta but after that I can ship it out.

It's 5/8 wood exterior dimensions 12x12.5x11.75

I don't know how much shipping would cost, but since I'm buying a new headunit and some optical cables for my build and I need 236 more in my PayPal account to cover the cost, how does 236 plus shipping sound?

You get a solid sub with an enclosure to start with, and my wife doesn't get to ***** about me spending more money on my build

I'm thinking about just getting this and calling it a day.

Ive ran a pair of these Bazooka 8250D in the past for a temp setup while waiting on an enclosure , and they were really nice. Easy to remove and put back in also to get to the spare tire if needed.

What did you end up getting or installing? And how does it sound? Curious
