speaker problems :(

I have mtx thunder 4 channel amp feeding off to two sets of comps, its been working well but lately if i put the volume on 20 or 25 the amp just cuts off and has trouble turning back on unless i lower the volume back down.

Any ideas as to what can be causing this? I was always able to put it on 35 or even 40 no problem before so its just driving me nuts right now as to why its acting like this.

Any help is appreciated!

Most likely one of your speakers are blown or nearly blown. Sounds like the amp is going into protection and the most likely cause for that is a voice coil that is or nearly shorted. I'd go check the resistance on all your speakers first and go from there. Could be a loose wire as well. Many things to check, start with checking wires, check speakers, watch the amp while it gets turned up see if it can tell you anything directly (lights on/off, power cutting out, etc.)

Well when it does happen the amp shuts off totally and keeps shutting on and off without it being able to come on totally. Ill go check the wires first but about the blown speakers is there nay sure fire way to tell besides how it sounds to know for sure thats what is causing the problem?

how can i be sure that the speaker is blown? Use the eq to only play on each speaker and just hear it? sorry for the noobness

Well after messing with it for a bit, barely even did anything truthfully just brang my backseats down, everything worked fine at any volume.

The only thing was when i set my EQ to only play on my back speakers, when i would put it up to about 30 or more the speakers would lose the full sound and would sound more further away or not as alive if that makes any sense, to me it sounded like the tweeters would go out only leaving the speaker to produce the music. Anyone have any idea as to what this is? At lower volumes it would sound alright both the speaker and tweeter working so I don't think anything was blown?

thanks
