speaker install help

im trying to figure out how to install speakers in my 01 vw passat, if you know what the mounting bracket looks like on my car its this plastic thing that holds the speaker and then rivets to the inside of the door not the plastic piece but the metal of the door. idk what size speakers to get in general and if i should use the bracket or just throw it out and find speakers that are shallow enough to not hit my glass from my window in my door? can someone please help mee
