Safe to bridge 250w RMS/500w max sub with a 380w/760w max amp?

Hi everyone.

Sorry about this... I posted this on the general discussion board then I found this one and thought it might be more appropriate. Sorry for the repost. Anyway.

I have a 10" Rockford Fosgate Punch P2 able to handle 250w RMS, 500w max.

Powering that I have a Pioneer GM-X962 amp. This has a max power of 760w, but continuous power of 380w.

I'm wondering if it would be safe to bridge the amp to the sub? Right now it's not bridged so the sub is only getting 125w of power (I assume? Because I googled it and it says that it gives out 125w x2 when not bridged, sooo), which is half of it's RMS. I'm not exactly satisfied with what it's giving me and I would like more. (It sounds great inside the car but I'd like to have a little bump on the outside).

So, would it be safe to bridge a 250w max RMS/500w max sub with an amp that does 380w/760w? If so, how would I make sure that it doesn't blow?

...I really just want to make sure it's safe, I just got my car so I don't want it to catch on fire or something. :p

Depends on what ohm load subs you have. Even then it depends on a couple of things, like how is your amp installed? Is it wired with the proper size power wires? What kind of box do you have? What is the voltage at the amp?I have seen the old Eclipse 87 series subs, which had rms power at about 250 rms, handle more then 500 rms. I believe a high rate of distortion will blow a subwoofer faster too much power. IMO.
