First off.

Checked toms hardware, still confused. Difference between Athlon XP+ and the Sempron.

Secondly, I believe theres a way to buy one XP Pro version and save money by buying liscences for all the other computers to legitely have that XP Pro version on more than one PC.

I don't know if that was understandable.

Any input?!

Athlon XP and Sempron are marketed as two different processors, but are pretty much the same. Semprons are AMDs "budget" chips similar to Intels Celeron line.

To answer your second question, yes, there are volume liscence discounts for Windows XP Pro.

HOWEVER!!!....Microsoft (although they dont want you to know) is not too picky if you legitimately purchase a physical copy of XP Pro, and install it on 3 or 4 machines. You can even activate all of those copies...its more or less the pirated versions that Microsoft cares about. (eg. 30K systems all with the same serial number). If you are looking to buy 20 or more licenses, then I would contact one of Microsofts authorized business software dealers.

I'm building 3 PCs for a dentist office in Odessa (TX).

He wants it to be legit software so that if and when a software tech goes into his office and installs neccesary software, works on computers, does whatever, that the XP copies are legit. Also, so he can download and install all needed updates/upgrades. This all good?

Yes, as long as the copies are activated within 30 days or sooner, then you will be able to download all updates. If I'm not mistaken M$ even allows those with pirated copies of XP Pro to upgrade to SP2 simply for its security benefits.

Btw what are the specs going to be, and where are you buying the parts. Want to give me a slice of that commission for my expertise???

Just as an add-on...SP2 cannot be added to a pirated version of XP, at least not if it's using one of the known pirated serial #'s. However, if you have have installed using a serial from a keygen, then this still looks legit to M$, and can have SP2 installed.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you have to have corporate edition of XP along with a corporate key in order to activate multiple machines using the same key? I know that this is their business model anyway, but not sure if they offer ways around this or not.

You can simply download the SP2 offline installer, you don't have to go through Windows Update. You can still use a pirated key. Microsoft pushed for everyone to download it, even the pirates, because they felt it was such a necessary security update.
There are ways around it. You can install and activate a few "personal license only" copies without a hitch if you know what you are doing.

Does Microsoft want you to do that?.........No.

Are they going to hang you out to dry if you do?......No.
