So my dad bought me a car for the big 18

Spoiling someone is completely based on the family income. If his dad only makes about 60k a year and bought him a 20k new car, yes he is spoiled as shit and his dad is a moron. If his dad makes 60k and they bought him a 4k car to get to/from school and work, he's what I would call a good parent.

Just because some of your parents sucked doesn't mean you need to take it out on the OP. When I turned 16 my dad made me buy his car off him at a slightly discounted price. It made me learn the value of money. They split my insurance and my college and did what they could based on their income without driving themselves into a downward spiral of debt.

Wait til we see what kind of car it is before everyone jumps down the OP throat. He never said it was going to be a 2010 Camaro. He said its black w/ a stick shift, could be an economical 96 civic ex w/ a stick and 150k miles.

You're right, I do live at home. I have also had to help pay the mortgage (good spelling by the way). I've had to help buy food. I also said that I never appreciated being able to live under my parents roof. I understand that they cannot continue to afford me, they have helped me out a ton. They payed for all those years of little league, vacations, etc. Also, I can't wait for the real life, because you know why? I KNOW I'll be more prepared for it than most kids my age. I won't have car payments, or credit card payments because I won't be in debt. The only thing I'll ever owe on is a house...oh wait, no I won't. I'm military, free housing FTW!!! You people crack me up how you think that it's ok to spoil your kids. This is a one of the reasons that our economy is suffering, because we've lost all work ethic. Kids get out of high school and don't know what to do, so they just stay at their parents house until they're 22-25. Guess what? I've got my room and board paid for, because I busted my *** in high school for it. Along with work ethic comes success, that's why I laugh at this.
Wow the amount of jealousy in here is running rampant. Who cares if your parents bought you a car. The day I turned 16 I woke up to find a new(to me) car in the drive fully hooked up with $2500 dollars worth of the top of the line pheonix gold gear in it(1996). Does that make me spoiled or less responsible than you. It's not like I did not appreciate it,I have thanked god every day for many years that I was fortunate enough to have been given things you may not have had. Really dude your 18 and i'm sorry you were poor, but the shit your saying does not apply to everyone.

Since i started driving 12 years ago i have got 5 or 6 free cars from my mom and my grandparents and i feel lucky to have recieved the all them. I got a free house to and guess what my wife gets a free house next year too. We live within our means very well and appreciate all of it. Just because you had to pay for food and help with the mortgage does not make you special and immediatlly more responsible and appricative than me,all it means is that you parents should have made better carreer choices when they were your age and they wouldnt need to ask there kid for help on bills. Maybe coming from an old fashioned italian family has taught me different than others but I can tell you one thing,my son will get a car on his 16th birthday as long as he acts right untill then and will never pay for food or shelter that is my responibility as a parent.

my father is a neuro-oncologist , has a million dollar house and 5 cars. the only thing he gave me was child support as required by the government. i didnt get shit from anyone , but i didnt graduate or stay out of trouble so that may have osmething to do with it.

my sister has graduated and everything , she recieved nothing from the family.

my fiance got a new car from her parents for graduating.

who ****ing cares. dont need to get all butthurt because your family cant afford it or doesnt care to give you anything.

it would be differnt if the kid is a no good piece of shit , then yeah , i hope his car burns to the ground , but i saw no reason to think that , so good for him. just remember what they did for you , and if they need help from you later down the road , dont hesitate to be there for them.

I, for one, am not jealous. I don't care what he has or doesn't have. The way I took it, he came here boasting about handouts from his family. Am I supposed to applaud the fact he was born into a family that gave him a car? I am not certain exactly what I am I supposed to be happy for OP about.
