Should my inline fuse match the amps??

You can drop it down tho have a potential to blow it. The fuse on the amp is set for the internal workings on it and are not necessarily the current draw of the amp. If you drop it down to a lower fuse and it blows bring a size up in it and try from there.

well...........i have it going with a 50.....and it doesnt blow.....will it hurt me to keep this in or should i go buy another 40 amp fuse?

No it should not hurt you to keep it in. It is still low enough to where if there were a problem or short it would blow and serve its purpose.

Fuse the wire for the gage of the wire. In other words, 8 gage 30-40 amps, 6 gage 50-60, etc. The main fuse protects the wiring and source. It doesn't matter what the loads are fused for.
