ok got a new amp and wiring, the amp has a 30 amp fuse in it....i have a 50 amp for my inline right now, should i drop down to a 30? or a 40? i forget what i did back in the day.....
You can drop it down tho have a potential to blow it. The fuse on the amp is set for the internal workings on it and are not necessarily the current draw of the amp. If you drop it down to a lower fuse and it blows bring a size up in it and try from there.

Fuse the wire for the gage of the wire. In other words, 8 gage 30-40 amps, 6 gage 50-60, etc. The main fuse protects the wiring and source. It doesn't matter what the loads are fused for.
