Should Mods have Temporary Ban Powers?

Yes there should be "supoer mods" like other forums. It would be another vote letting the people decide out of the current mods which of them should have partial admin powers. Like half the mod staff. I also hate to say this, but Goddy would be a good candidate. He is here A LOT and I don't thin khe would ban just because he doesn't like someone. He would only do it in extreme cases of TOS infractions AKA chinny. I have said this before.

If you flood or DOS the site, the provider autobans - ( .. right?)If there's a problem user, mods vote in the backroom on banishment, then admin takes care of it (.. right?)

It isn't an issue of "trust". Goob doesn't like banning, period. He doesn't like to do it himself except for under extreme circumstances.

To my understanding, correct me if I am wrong, you were selling an item that was iffy at best. You had said that you bought your DVD's in bulk and when you were told to provide proof that you had bought them instead of copying them you couldnt come up with said proof. IMO, if you were copying them you should be banned.

Definatly in the past though. You seem to be a good member as far as I am conscerned.

And that typically takes days. And is irrelevant to a mod vote. Goob either bans or doesn't based on his own opinion.

However, there are very few times that a mod's suggestion for a ban is turned down by Goob, given that it's only mentioned for very clear violations of TOS. If the user isn't banned, goob takes care of it via a warning to the user that if the actions persist, they will be banned permanently.

So what do mods need ban powers for?

Lots of reasons.

Spamming the forum could be stopped immediately with a temp ban by a mod. Posting of **** could be stopped immediately via a temp ban. Etc etc. Things that now take days to get done, could be accomplished immediately. It would really speed up the process and cause problematic users to be halted immediately rather than "when goob gets around to it". Plus I think it's a better deterint(sp?).....some people won't do certain things if they know they could get atleast temporarily banned for them.

He says it normally does more harm than good. Goob doesn't IP ban, only bans the username. So if you ban a member, and that former member gets upset about the situation, then they can just open a new username and spam the ever-living hell out of the forum. Things like that.

Also, I know from experience that banning a member can make the problem worse, so we have to be careful about our banning techniques.

here is one of his reasons. He has stated more, but it is truly up to him. He makes the decisions and he doesnt always ban people that we bring up to him.

totally wrong. I was never told to provide proof of anything. I came in one day and my account was banned. He says he deleted my thread and warned me but he never warned me anything and i explained to him if he deelted my thread it was a pshsical deelte not a soft delete like mods do so i seen no notice. I never had talked to goob before i was banned. I explained how i got the DVDs and said I would not sell them again if he had a problem with it but I was told by several people they were authentic. He replied he would reenable my account but not to sell them again unless i have something from glassman saying they are authentic. well glassman never returns my emails, and he never unlocked my account. This all happened before you were a mod, req can tell you what happened as he was relaying my messages to goob for me since he didnt reply to my PMs either. but as you say its all in the past but the fact still remains some mods abuse their powers and are over zelous when it comes to deleting threads //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
