should i upgrade my sub amp?

Okay guys, here's my situation...

I recently switched out my two Sundown E8 v1's with two Sundown E8 v2's. I kept the same box and same amp (Phoenix Gold R8.01), which worked very well with my E8 v1's...basically 300 watts rms going to each sub.

After wiring the subs, I found that I'm having to dial the gain setting on the amp to 50%, whereas before with the E8 v1's, the gain was all the way down.

Would this be because the v2's are more demanding than the v1's? If that's the case, would I be better off running something like a Kicker zx750.1??

Thanks!

i'm betting my f'n amp needs a gd upgrade...what do you think? the f'n gain is turned halfway up...it was all the gd way down with my prior subs. if you have a gd second, would you mind helping me the f out? thanks!

are the subs wired to the same final impedance?
are they wired correctly? check and then double check polarity.

Are the new subs less efficient 93db vs say 87db?
they are definitely wired correctly to 2 ohms. i'm 100% sure of this. good question about the efficiency, i need to check into that...could you help me with the reasoning behind asking?? i'm pretty newbish to car audio. thanks!

how much were the v1 rated, how much are the v2 rated?

just because the gain has to go higher shouldnt be a big deal as long as your not clipping them.

if they arent giving u enough output vs the v1, yes a bigger amp is probably best because like all sundown subs they love power im sure

do u not know the definition of efficiency? if its less efficient it wont be as loud on the same power, or the same gain settings. if its less efficient it needs more power or higher gain settings

yep, i know the definition of efficiency...i was questioning the significance in regards to the speaker.

i'm having a trouble finding the specs for "efficiency" on these subs, assuming it's measured in "db's".

here's what i found, maybe someone can translate whether one is more efficient than the other.

E8 v2:

D2 Model :

RE: 3.927 ohms

Fs: 43.59 Hz

Qes: 0.643

Qms: 4.404

Qts: 0.555

Le: 2.75 mH

Vas: 7.22 L

BL: 13.023 NA

Cms: 131 uM/N

Mms: 101 grams

Sens: 81.53 1w/1m

Xmax: 10.5mm one-way linear

Power: 200 RM

E8 v1:

Re = 3.37 ohms (4 ohm nominal)

Fs = 34.9 hz

Qes = 0.5323

Qms = 6.93

Qts = 0.4943

Vas = 7.6 L

BL = 13.3 N/A

Mms = 127.7 grams

Cms = 162 um/N

Xmax = 12mm one-way linear (70% BL method)

Rated RMS Power = 200 watts

My guess would be the eff rating as it looks like the v2's have a rating of 81 which is real low. Unless the v1's are even worse which I doubt there lower then 81 I can see why the v1's would be louder then the v2's off the same power.

D amn I did not know the sa's eff was so bad.. 81 is just flat out horrible.

dont need high efficiency when its built to take tons of power. the sa-8 has even lower efficiency

TC epic 8 is similar, 81db

DD 1508 is "rated" for 85.5 if thats true

would you think swapping my PG R8.01 with a Kicker zx750.1 give me better results with the E8 v2's??

according to winisd, going from 600 watts per pair to 750, ur only going to gain 1db, which i dont believe is audible.

are they sealed or ported?

u could also try emailing jacob for his opinion. he will know the best. like maybe they need ~900 watts to really shine. im not sure =/

I would take a sub with a higher eff rating over one that can take tons of power but waste's most of it. Will be cheaper on your pocket book also..

doesn't sound like the bump in power would be worth the extra $$...

they're sealed.

and, i'll try jacob to see if he has an opinion...thanks!
