Should I upgrade my alternator?

Here's the situation:

I am new to subwoofers.

Wanting to add two 12 inch subs.

Subs are Boss CX122's running at 700W RMS and 1400 Peak.

The Amp is still being decided on, but running between 1300W RMS to 1500W RMS.

My car is a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS with the 2.0 non turbo Chrysler motor. The alternator currently puts out 75 Amps.

I would stay away from boss products as well if you haven't bought the subs already.

Do the math ..figure your total current draw in amps and see what your deffecit is ..

My rule of thumb is if you add up all the fuse ratings say 100 amps ..if your alt is not putting out atleast 65-70 % of that than either add batteries, upgrade alt, ot both..

At the power lvls you are looking at prolly adding a batt or 2 would be sufficient.

just find somewhere local, a place that can rebuild and beef up your alternator or just buy one like that. No need for a 180-300 amp high ouptut alt that costs 500. Run your amp choices by us first before you buy. Based on your choice, your amp might not even make 500 watts rms if its boss or power acoustik.

Yeah depending on the true rms of what your trying to put out, ( And I only say this because Boss products tend to Over rate their true power in my experiences, but thats not the point) but i would not go to crazy with the alternator either if your just want a little "Boom" in your ride on the way to work/school. I would upgrade no doubt, but resonably. 70-80's amps, is quite small, it is just to get by on normal basic operation of electrical equipment in your vehicle.
