I have a Type-X sealed in a 1.12cf box.

Before you guys flame me about searching, i did. I'm looking for feedback on anyone who HAS TRIED BOTH.

Only thing i could find on the search was that the ported type-x is definitely louder. OK thats dandy but i love my SQ. I dont want to give up a ton of SQ for SPL. So does anyone have hands on experience with the type-x 12 ported AND sealed?? Is it really worth the trade off even for a SQ guy? How much am i giving up to gain the SPL?? I know the rough average box setup is 2cf @ 32hz so you guys can leave that out.

I went from sealed to vented, back to sealed with my JL.......the vented definately vibrates the car more, but the sealed just sounds so much more musical.

At least IMHO.

Ive heard those specs are pretty ideal for that sub... id love to hear from some who have done so and with what results. Again, the Type-X 12. I dont need to give it more power so thats a non issue w/ 1000wrms already going to it.

handle more power, and sound just as musical with as much SQ as a sealed box.

I thought sealed boxes handle more power.......also, I dont think there is any way a ported box will ever have more SQ than sealed. Dont ported boxes have this huge roll off below tuning frequency?? You dont get that sealed. *shrugs*

Not if you tune it properly, and low enough. The ported sub can take mroe power from the tuning frequency and up. What happens below the tuning freq is that the sub can unload because it is basically running as a free air sub below that tuning. There is a rolloff below the tuning frequency based on the subsonic freq used and the FB of the enclosure. Taking this into account, if the box is tuned from 25-30 hz you will not notice a difference negatively vs a sealed box, most likely it will be a positive difference in the favor of the ported box.

Ported just sounds boomier to me, I like the deep lows, and kick of the sealed box. Sealed boxes can cover any type of music. I heard some Jazz, Acoustics on a ported box and it didnt sound anywhere near as natural as it did on a sealed box.

JMHO

I understand, I just entered the realm of ported box and I do believe that they are the best overall type of enclosure. Boominess comes from a poorly buily box or a box that is too large. In the correct enclosure, with the right tuning, a ported box will play just as well as a sealed. I am tuned at about 28hz, trust me the box gets SUPER low. Most music doesn't even play that low. All I'm saying is that an ideal ported box vs an ideal sealed box will have comparable SQ.

IMHO as well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
