Should I get just one sub or two? Help plz

Hey. I'm upgrading my system, and currently am running Focal 165KF components in the front, a JL Audio 300/4 powering the front speakers only, and a JL Audio 500/1 powering 2 MTX Thunder 5500 subs. It's time for the subs to go, and I'm looking into JL Audio 12w6v2. I can't decide if I wanna go with 1 or 2 of these bad boys. If I went with two, I would get an additional 500/1 to run 500w to each sub. I think this would be a pretty badass setup. I found them for a great price on eBay, so price is not a factor here.

What's the difference between having one sub and two? I listen to a lot of rock/metal, and although I've heard 12s are better for rap/hip hop, I need a bit more depth and fullness than my current 10s are giving me. Although MTX is entry level, I think I'd prefer 12s and from what I hear, these JLs are great for anything.

So besides sheer volume and loudness, is there any difference in the way my music will sound at medium volumes? Or is the purpose of having 2 12s just to get it WAY louder? Thanks for hte help!

might want to consider 3 10's. my girlfriend has 3 and shes only giving them roughly 200 rms a piece and it sounds great. im about to install 3 10's in my car tomorrow but mine will get 400rms a piece. should sound pretty nice and have the ability to get loud.

i would just get 1 12w6v2, put it in a nice ported box, and power it with the 500/1...
Yeah, I don't need it to get insanely loud, I just want good SQ at high volumes.

Right now I just have two MTX Thunder 5500 10" subs...which max out at 300w. I have a single 500/1 powering both subs, so basically I'm running 250w to each sub.

Now, I can get it pretty loud and I really don't need much more volume than I currently have. So I guess with a single JL sub getting the full 500w, it's gonna get a little louder than my two MTXs getting 250w each, right? Especially if they max @ 300w.

if your thinking of getting two w6 12's then you might as well just get a w7 12 for about the same price and you will be more than satisfied.
**** dude, I just looked at the w7...peaks at 2000w? Shit dude! Will a single 500/1 powering that be sufficient?

So I'd need another 500/1 or a 1000/1 to power the w7?
How does the w7 compare to the w6? Or two w6s for that matter?
i dont think a w6 is anywhere close to a w7. my first system was a w6 12 and i thought it was loud until i heard a w7 and the w7 was a whole different story.

Is that just pure loudness or also sound quality, clarity, cleanness? I listen to rock/metal, I want something to hit really hard but much deeper than a 10".

So if I went the w7 route, would it be better to get a single 1000/1, or could I just add another 500/1 and have them both run to the sub?

you can do it either way, which ever saves you money will be the best option. i would personally buy a 1000/1 and try to sell the 500/1.
