from what i read it was also supposed to help protect jobs. and maybe we should put this whole fuel efficeint thing on the back burner. or jsut stop holding back all the small companies that have actually made progress simply bc of big oil. but then again if big oil companies went down i imagine that wuld be pretty bad too.

I already explained this once, and will do so again now for the last time. Pay attention and take notes because I'm not explaining it again.
GM employs union workers, who on average make 2x or more than non union workers at other places. That automatically raises there bottom line higher than other companies. So there price is going to be higher than other companies. Since they have a higher bottom line they can't have as much added value as other foreign automakers.

They have less features than competitively priced vehicles from other manufacturers. An intelligent buyer will try to get the highest value for there dollar, so they spend money on features and not on overinflated labor.

Michigan took our football coach, basketball coach, so you can have our economic trouble too.

Toyota competes on price and features, and last I heard they had more American made components than ford. Also more final assembly work is done in the states for Toyota than your American made, mexican/canadian assembled Ford :0

Its really quite simple.. The UAW and Big 3 had it GREAT, and UAW squeezed and squeezed for their guys to live a better life. They succeeded, BUT those were our parents generation that benefited from this. WE will not. 10 years ago, it was like winning the lottery for the average white male in the Detroit area to get that magic call from one of the big 3 for a test or an interview because dad, or Uncle Bob brought you home an application. No worries about school, you walked into a great paying job that you had an outside entity CYA if you screwed up.. Christ you could almost commit murder and the UAW would back the employee to try to keep his job!

My older family members on by toyota. I would buy stock in them instead of GM. Your talkin 20-30 years before you see stocks increase. By then oil will no longer be inexsistence. Save your money. Everyone else is. If your going to invest do it in a beer company b/c everyone is drinking heavily nowdays.

Why sorry for her? She lives comfortably. What she does, it is very good pay.

and Oil will be in excistance in 20-30 years. Current reserves are expected to last longer than that.

As for mechanics making good $$ I fully agree with that. My dad is an ASE Master Mech, and while he has made good money doing it, his health benefits are crap, his retirement is his 401k, and his body is trashed (3 back surgeries, carpel tunnel in BOTH hands operated on, separated his Bicep from his shoulder... list goes on and on)

Their starting wage is suppose to be $17 an hour and the average wage is $25 an hour. You should tell her to contact her union rep.

meh...toyota trucks and cars are ugly. i would take a ford or gm truck over a tundra or the nissan titan.

im not arguing over which is better or who makes what where.

and i was being tottaly sarcastic with that immigarnt comment.
