Should Canada support US Military actions in Iraq

So, the UN thinks that WW2 was illegal? Wasnt asking if they were around then //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

WWII was triggered by the advance of German forces out of its borders. The conflict spread beyond the state's own borders. If the UN was around, then it would have been in a position to order intervention.

Just like in the FIRST Gulf War. Iraq invaded Kuwait, war was declared and endorsed by the UN to protect its member states.

I see that BIMMa85 is all for helping people after the blood has been pilled in the war and the wind and water from Katrina has died down. Don't come to Louisiana to help out unless you have at least an M-16. As demonstrated by history, all "helpful nations" do it out of their politically motivated self centered agenda. There has never been a war that is "perfectly just", it involves death and sickness and exploitation of the weak. Man is never more a beast than when at war. Its time for "do gooders" to stop denying their own violent and exploitive nature. As even in the cleanup, "caring" people will vie for their piece of the action. From what I have seen, it takes a special nation or person to avoid becoming a shark when their is blood in the water. The USA is way out on a limb trying to assist, it has almost nothing to win and everything to loose. The old saying "No good deed goes on unpunished" is alive and well in these troubled issues. Its sad that such educated people in both the USA and Canada have so little available information or have the inclination to study these issues in their historical context. We are becoming robots being forced to make democratic decisions based on sound bites dumbed down to the least common demoninator. Their may be bigger issues than the war, it seems that we have distorted our personal and national conscience. I think thats why so many people have always wanted to immigrate to the west. Once we loose our spiritual foundation we loose our personal and national dignity.

That was deep.

wow, this topic is getting good... well good for the people against me haha.

Yeah, I am starting to see how I will lose this debate. Even if you are not for Canada supporting te US... please help me out with some reasons. Also, the topic of why the US is in Iraq has been debated a lot here (oil, to get rid of a dictator and the other BS reasons given)... I like that, but I need more help on why Canada should be there supporting the US.

There's a difference between requring defensive support and requiring offensive support ... If the US were ever attacked, Canada would help out ... However, invading another country and going against basically the entire world and our better judgement just because the US decided to get in way over their heads isn't the right thing to do, IMO ...

Ya thats perfect, I would never want to be dragged into a friends mess when I didnt support it from the beginning, but if my friend was being attacked, I would help out in a second.

any more help supporting my side of the argument? haha, It's looking bad for me.
Also evidence where neighboring countries have benefited from helping each other through wars would help... any help at all?
This isnt a war where the US was in immediate danger. If the US was attacked by a foreign country then yes, Canada would surely help out. Canada helped out in the attack of Afghanistan after Sept. 11. This Iraq war was something on Bush's personal agenda. Think of it as finishing where his father left off. The White House would have you believe it was a war against terror. Heck, I support removing Saddam out of power. I dont support the premature attack on Iraq because the US didnt go through the proper channels.

Yes...they Should!! They Play A Role In Our Country Also.
That makes no sense. THe whole world is economically tied to the United States. Does that mean the whole world has to do whatever the US feels like doing?

ok, that I agree with...if we were attacked, id expect them to help...or at least not allow anyone to fly over their country but U.S.

No...im just saying they first handedly play a role in our country....Id expect Mexico to definitely help.............and i hope you understand why.....BUT.........

Canada plays sports in our country.....there is one example...if you expect to do that...then give a little help...and i dont mean send 100's of 1000's of troops here to help...but a little help

yeah, Canada and the US have shared many of the same goals and interests in the past which is why my first thought was that this topic could be handled easily.

If the US was given permission by the UN to go into Iraq, should Canada then help? So basicly, with ignoring the reasons behind the war, should Canada fully support US military? I know that's a tuff situation to throw out there and look at it, but maybe it can help me out for this class. I don't want to fail! Car audio gods, you should know everything!!! I came here before any other forum for help!
