Should Canada support US Military actions in Iraq

Our professor set up a debate... and gave me this topic while all others got to chose their own topics of discussion. Being the only American in my class, I already think that's wrong (but that's another topic)

This will be in a debate. Should Canada support US military actions in Iraq or not? My side of the debate is that they should as that is what was given to me.

Original thought was of course Canada should support the US in Iraq... but after asking some Canadians, they all (well mostly all) seemed against it.

What are some reasons why Canada should support the US military actions in Iraq? Anybody got good facts for this? Just trying to get the American opinion here too.

I think that some Canadians would be for it, some against it. It all depends how the Canadian media portrays the war in Iraq, and how they perceive it. The media has a lot of influence over political pull in both the U.S and Canada.

Well, did canada promise the united states for support? Did they lobby in the UN for the war? Well if not then its none of their business... not trying to sound like some anti war douche but if they made no commitment to the war in the past then they have a choice if they want to support us or not. thats all...

agreed. The media has a huge impact on the war in Iraq. I am probably the worst guy for the topic as I do understand it is an important event to know about, but I really know nothing at all on the topic except what the media is showing me. So my opinion is all based on what the media is giving me.

But seriously, its all how the war gets portrayed on Canadian media, which I know nothing about since I live in Oregon. I'm sure there's negativity towards Bush, towards the war, maybe even some support for the troops, but who knows.

Thats very true, media is a very powerful tool that can be used for the good of the people or it can be used against them. Unfortunatly it's mostly against them:crap:

Why?

They basically reep all of the USA technilogical advances via the military and subcontracted military companies.

History shows that thru' war, conflicts, battles, skirmishes, whatever advances in military technology become very rapidly. To help whoops your enemys *** faster..

Romans are a good example, they had the money and military weapons to pound the balls out of everyone in the known world.

WW1 we had lawn mower BS tractor tanks and by WW2 they had the badass Tigers, Shermans, without those wars who knows if we would have tanks or if they would have come as far as they have.

Now Canada gets to buy our technology that we spent Billions on so we would have better gear to whoop everyone's *****.. They haven't earned it.

If we didnt sell our technology and weapons to Canada or anyone else in the world, we would sure have an unmatched and pretty much outside the top 7 nations no one else would have the money or tech. to even manufacture effective modern weapons.

I think if you buy our weapons you support the people and the causes of those whom you purchased the weapon from. Otherwise go build your own crap at your own expense!!!!

We share technology but are completely against the cause.. **** that. I am **** proud we are staying out of that war.. I think its ridiculous and im glad we can show our point of view and not be pressured into it. I love this country.. and I guarantee I will never live somewear else. Im so thankful that the USA world police dont influence us. Im positive 80% of Canada would agree.

Im Canadian. It is in Canada's nature to stay neutral on many things.

Not to mention, Canada doesnt have much of an army to help out with anyway. What the heck do you expect the Canucks to do? THey would be there for mostly a diplomatic show of force.

Canadian forces are operational in Afghanistan. Im sure that they would take part in helping out in Iraq after the shooting dies down. It wouldnt be for the support of the Americans, it would be mostly to get the Iraqis back on their feet. If every country shared the same views as the US, well, we would all be a part of the US.

Different countries , different diplomacy. To summarize all Canadians as being ******* because they didnt support a war that went against the UN is retarded. The US was out of line when they attakcked Iraq. SHOULD the US have invaded Iraq? Sure, down the road with more international and UN support. Going against the UN just tosses out the progress made since the end of WW2. What is the point of a UN if anyone just goes against it?

Again, to call all Canadians ******* is just ignorant. I do believe there are many intelligent Americans who can see beyond what their government tells them. Although I do also believe that there are many who are completely out of the loop and believe every bit of bullshit they are fed.

Do you really think the Canadians care about US Military Technology? What are they going to use it for? I mean really? DO you really need to patrol your coasts for illegal fishers and immigrant smugglers with B2 nuclear bombers?

Remember, the US media is very biased as well. CNN is very very very biased. A lot of people tend to watch BBC for generally unbiased news.
