Should Canada support US Military actions in Iraq

Im Canadian. It is in Canada's nature to stay neutral on many things.
Not to mention, Canada doesnt have much of an army to help out with anyway. What the heck do you expect the Canucks to do? THey would be there for mostly a diplomatic show of force.

Canadian forces are operational in Afghanistan. Im sure that they would take part in helping out in Iraq after the shooting dies down. It wouldnt be for the support of the Americans, it would be mostly to get the Iraqis back on their feet.

Different countries , different diplomacy. To summarize all Canadians as being ******* because they didnt support a war that went against the UN is retarded. The US was out of line when they attakcked Iraq. SHOULD the US have invaded Iraq? Sure, down the road with more international and UN support. Going against the UN just tosses out the progress made since the end of WW2. What is the point of a UN if anyone just go against it?

Again, to call all Canadians ******* is just ignorant. I do believe there are many intelligent Americans who can see beyond what their government tells them. Although I do also believe that there are many who are completely out of the loop and believe every bit of bullshit they are fed.

Remember, the US media is very biased as well. CNN is very very very biased. A lot of people tend to watch BBC for generally unbiased news.
I take it all the Canada's media, is totally unbiased?

I see we have a bunch of people who have quickly forgotten the real reason we went into the 2nd gulf war-the failure of Iraq to honor UN resolutions to allow search for chemical and biological weapons. They were given countless opportunities and deadlines and the UN refused to honor its peacekeeping mandate to the rest of the world. The US and England and a few other countries were the only UN countries willing to do the job they were mandated to do by the requirements of their membership. Yes Canada should support the UN not the US. As we all know, the media has completely looked over the issue of a completly corrupted UN and kept the focus on the US. Will the Canadians want the support of the US should they need it. Anyone who knows the history of WW1 and WW2 will understand how isolationism and avoidance actually leads to the Wars by enabling tyranny to test our basic national desire for peace and justice. I for one refuse to feel guilty for trying to rid the world of insane and cruel dictatorships. Its not about oil, thats excessively simplistic. Its about establishing freedom and doing "the right thing" as a stabalizing influence in a world of insanity. If we don't stand for freedom, justice and liberty who in the world will? I think Ronald Regan, FDR and other strong leaders helped make the world safer by being willing to take political risks. The Canadians need to remember the heroic history of it soldiers and willingness to sacrifice for justice in all of the large wars of the 20th century. The problem with Canada is that alot of draft dodgers from Viet Nam era moved up there and influence a brave nation that took great risks to establish its identity. If you dont stand for something you stand for nothing. Its never to late for a reality check, aye!

No media is completely unbiased. I never said the Canadians dont support the Americans. There are lots of Canadians who would want to go to Iraq and help out and lots that dont. It isnt up to them. It is up to the Canadian government which, is preoccupied with a lot of other things. Have you been up to Canada? The government is a mess. The last thing they need is to be thrown into a war in the Middle East.

As a Canadian, I can say that I would (and have tried) to join the US Army to help out. Turns out I cant, because im not a citizen. Im sure I could as my mom is American but it takes a lot more effort than it's worth really. Point is, there are many Canadians that would go overseas to help out, but cant.

x2, but I do feel there is a fine line between freeing them, and forcing our beliefs and way of life on them.

Dude im not a freakin government I dont know how Canada acts. Im saying after the situation has settled down in Iraq, you are going to see more "humanitarian" efforts from many countries helping out. Its not like, "ah let the Americans go get killed and we will come pick up the pieces", although I know you are trying to make it seem like that.

If you are talking about me directly, I was trying to enlist as an engineer or a mechanic or something. I was going to join the Canadian military but there is not much happening. I emailed the US military or whatnot and they said I couldnt join because of my citizenship.

So yea, I tried.

Common, when you guys had a real problem not your dumbass oil war, like Katrina for example, we offered a huge amount of our military, and almost all of the few vehicles that would help. What about that? We help loads of countries any way we can, we just dont go to war when it feels un-necessary.

So ya, if we ever have a major natural disaster and need money, aid, food, and vehicles than I do hope you guys do what we did.

Canada has nothing to offer.

Really. It would probably slow the US troops down ... having to explain to Canadian soldiers what all this fancy shit is on their guns - you don't use muskets down there.

We've got soldiers in Afghanistan getting blown up, but they're not there to seek and destroy ... as mentioned before, I think you'll see a large Canadian presence in Iraq as soon as everything has died down and the humanitarian effort is in full force.

Back to the original topic of the thread... Isn't the guy looking for help to write his paper on? The Prof. gave him an assignment to write an arguement for Canada's involvement/alliance with the U.S. in Iraq. He wasn't looking for Canadian opinions as to why Canada shouldn't help but why they should. It is a HW assignment not a debate thread!

haha the assignment is a debate tho... and I like what I am hearing... all of the different opinions... I am at a bit of a disadvantage over the rest of the class as the prof thought I would enjoy this assignment and did not give me a choice on it. Truth is, I know nothing about the topic.

But of course, anyone who has any help to support me on this topic, please post it. I've searched and found decent information... but I am now more convinced to go against my own topic then for it now.
