SHOULD 4 channel become 2 ???

ROOKIE QUESTION..I am buying an amp for my front component speakers....CAN I..better yet ....SHOULD I........USE A 4 CHANNEL AMP AND BRIDGE IT TO 2 CHANNELS TO POWER MY "COMPONENT" SPEAKERS.....do people do this...why...why not etc...The main reason I ask this question is because I have access to some good quality 4 channels???

No problems with using it as a 2 channel. Just be sure to observe the correct impedence.

nope u won't be a rebel. i'd say its almost smarter because 4 channels usually have more features. just like zane said, u need to watch what ohm load ur putting on it.

most amps can only run 4 ohms bridged. So dont run it under that. Also bridging raises THD. Id just go with a 2 channel if ur only running a set of components.

Is that what you mean by Watching the ohm load. Most components can only be run at 4 ohms...for example the Fosgate 400A4 is 100watts by 4 channels or bridged 200w to 2 channels at 4ohm..I will have 200w running to each component..Safely and wisely..????or not???

P.S. Basically I have access to older but "NEW" Fosgate 400A4,600A4 amps etc...Is it true the older fosgate amps (pre-2001) are better than thier new models. They sell "used" for more on EBAY than the Brand new Fosgate stuff..I realize this may cause a debate..but I have heard this opinion alot???

IIRC- the old 400a4's will be fine at 4 ohms (2 channel mode)

2 ohms would be a stretch unless it is the power series.

You should still be ok with your current configuration plans.....

IMO- Older Fosgate Amps are a lot better in virtually all ways.

I haven't seen much that can stand up to my old Power 50.2
