Setting up 4 speakers 4 beginners

Hello, I am new of the forum... And of car audio in general.

Recently I have been doing some maintenance on my car and I was thinking about improving the audio somehow.

The actual system is the OEM 24 years old cassette stereo system. It is very unbalanced on the 1 kHz and 2500 kHz which dominate over all the other frequencies. It is... Old [emoji28]

I tried to attach the smartphone via cassette adapter, removing or heavily reducing these frequencies; I also cleaned the speakers and sprayed some siliconic car cleaner on them, and then I cleaned the cassette head. The ending result was a quite decent audio when playing flac files. Good SN ratio.

All this to say that... I was thinking about buying new speakers, and as far as I know I think that would be enough to get a cheap and easy to install improvement. I am not seeking the best system in the world, just some brighter and deeper sound.

I noticed that in the rear deck there is space for two additional oval speakers, provided with all the wiring, BUT on the stereo manual it says maximum 20 W x 2, so I am uncertain whether it will handle 4 speakers or just two.

Do you think I can change the speakers only, or is it a waste of time and money to install them on the system as is? Do I have to change the head and the amplifier too?

If so, what do you suggest that I install? I am going to buy Sony Xsfb 1330 speakers (35 W RMS) for the front and another oval Sony speaker model for the back.

Thanks a lot [emoji16]

keep the stock, put your money towards a quality head unit instead. You wont get any decent results swapping stock speakers out to sh*tty cheap aftermarket speakers.

Most beginners dont know that if you plan to swap speakers, you cannot do a half @ssed speaker swap meaning. Door treatments must be used, an amplifier must be used and PROPER SIGNAL PROCESSING AND TUNING must be implemented. Literally would need a head unit swap or add a digital sound processor to start out to get a good signal along with the capability to actually tune the setup right, this makes the most difference. Then turn your door into a speaker enclosure with CLD deadener and Mass Loaded vinyl covering all holes and gaps, making a proper baffle to direct the sound inside the car so it doesnt get stuck in the plastic door panel.

Simply put, just slapping on a new set of speakers will not get you any results.

Thank you, I had already reviewed amplifiers, DSP and baffles and I was planning to add them. I think I have to check how to combine the parts, I am practical of home audio but car audio is totally new for me...
Is there any particular model of amp and DSP etc you can suggest me?

the the most affordable quality dsp right now is the rockford dsr1 which is bluetooth app controlled on your phone vs the normal ones that require a laptop.

as for amps, since you are in Rome, hertz and audison would come to mind since they are made in Italy. Audison does make a dsp as well but requires laptop to tune.

I would actually need to see what is available to you in your market to see what amps to recommend because what is good, cheap and available in the US market may not be available in the Italian market, vice versa. For now i can just refer the good brands which might be super expensive that i know for sure is in your country.
