ok i got two 12" L7's in a ported box tuned to 38hz, theyre being powered by a orion 2500d, so im going to turn my subwoofer lvl on my HU down all the way to 0 and turn off bass boost on the amp, my question is what test tone should i use? would a 40hz sine wave be ok to use?

you need to turn your sub level on your hu up all the wayy. thats not boost, its voltage.

boost= bad

voltage= good

the more pre out voltage you get to your amps, the lower your gains can be, and the lower your noise floor is because of the S/N ratio relationship.

Depends on the HU. On some units turning the sub level all the way up will cause the outputs to clip at a lower volume.....which obviously is not something you want.

Also, not having it turned all the way up when he sets the gain gives him the ability to increase the sub level on songs with either a low recording level or low bass output....something he wouldn't be able to do if he has it turned all the way up already.

i got that jensen in dash tv, its got 2v preouts, i set the gain today, my sub woofer lvl on the HU is at 0, but my gain is almost all the way up, it is set right though, should i keep it like it is or should i re-set my gain again with the subwoofer lvl on the Hu all the way up?
