Setting levels for mids and highs

I recently installed replacement speakers in my dash (3" Dayton Reference) for highs and doors (7" Dayton Reference) for mids. The highs seem to play much louder than my mids. Is this normal or should I lower the gain on the highs to make them play equal to mids?

Use an EQ to cut the highs, or simply turn the gain down on those channels if you don't like it

3000hz and up should be a few db lower than under 3000hz. In a proper tune. So yes lower the gain

Why wouldn't you attenuate it if you think it's too loud?

This is the first time I've had a component setup like this. Wasn't sure if it was normal for highs to sound louder than my mids. Sorry if you guys think this is dumb, just trying to get this setup correctly.

There is actually a standard. It's about balance. Our ears are more sensitive to higher frequencies, that's why in a tune they should be a few dbs under the base line which is the mid range.

All on external amp with separate gain and filter for each set. I have everything crossed as I want, just need to adjust gain I think to quiet down the highs.

Google some response curves and find a RTA. Build a few and see which you like. Always cut never boost.
