Setting Gain with DMM... EQ on or off?

Ok so I'm getting ready to install my new RF Power T500-1bd amp. I am goin to use a DMM to set my gain using the formula Gain (volts)=sqrt(watts x impediance). Since my amps birthsheet says 750 watts rms @ 1ohm and i have 2 4ohm dvc subs, I am going to wire my subs parallel for a 1ohm load. So, my gain volts would be sqrt(750x1)= ~27.4. I've read tons of gain setting how-to's, some say set my headunits eq and amps bass boost first, some say set them after setting gain. Which should I do? Gain first or EQ/Bass Boost first?

I always set my gains before any eq settings are adjusted from flat.

You should set gains with everything set to the loudest point you would ever find yourself listening. If you have a nice, clean, properly set signal at volume 40 with all settings flat, then turn it to volume 60 and crank every nob to the right to listen to it, you've done absolutely no good by properly setting your gains.

I would see how this would be better if using an o-scope to set gain. Because with the eq set, you could see where the wave clips. But, when using a dmm, wouldn't eq/bass settings affect the voltage it clips at? Causing you to set the gain higher or lower than the actual correct gain setting.

yes your gonna have a higher voltage with your eq set up instead of flat. you should set your gains with eq set to what your gonna keep it at
