Setting for bass boost?

I recently replaced my cars audio system with 4 6"x9" speakers and the only way the produce any decent bass from the speakers is when I turn bass boost on the head unit. But I don't want any of this boost going to my subwoofer because from what I've read online bass boost is the easiest way to kill subs. So i'd like to know if I should set the gain on the subwoofer with bass boost maxed that way no extra voltage will ever go to the sub (I use ohms law eqn to set my gains) and if there is any safe way to use bass boost on a subwoofer.

Cheers.

anyway i look to set an amp i never use bass boost. i just leave it at 0 and set it all with the gain. i learned the hard way with bass

boost. i literaly melted the sub internally lol. i think its half pointless for them to put a boost on the amp. but yea id just use the gain to set the amps

BB is trash....And people need to realize that the more boost you use, the LESS power the sub will need to see at other frequencies in order to stay within the headroom limit.

Say your deck does 10 watts RMS per speaker. If you use boost then the frequency that's boosted is going to have to see NO MORE then that 10wrms.....So..This means that the rest of the range will have to see less then 10 watts.

If you turn to the volume that you used before adding the boost then you will get clipping at the boosted frequency.

Are your 6x9s amped?

Amping them might help the bass output, or you may just need better 6x9s

The bass boost is ok to use at low volumes, higher volumes just ends up doing a lot more damage than good.

Also, check the xover settings on the HU..you might have it set too high

**** lol, and the bass boost is on the HU not the amp.

Lower the crossover point on the 6x9's?
go with my moto if it has a knob turn it to the max LOL.... But really leave BB off.
not quite sure what the crossover point or the moto is. What I'm considering doing is tuning it, there is a knob on the amp between the frequencies 50Hz-250Hz I believe. I think I'm going to turn it down and see if I get more bass that way.

Thanks for the info, makes a lot of sense. Cheers.

yes theyre amped, and was planning to use the boost at high volumes but on the speakers. Just didnt want any of it going to the sub. Didnt think it was as bad on speakers as it was on subwoofers.

another way of looking at bass boost on an amp is when bass boost is used,it will keep a electro magnetic strong hold on the coil resulting in heat from the subwoofer not being able to move like it should.the more bass boost is used, the stronger the hold on the coil will be trying to keep it from excursing.i use to use a little bass boost until i found this little info out.no bass boost means the sub can move freely with the correct gain setting.
