Setting amp with dmm...

So I was bored and decided to do so. Whatever I choose as my max volume on my HU, and then set the amp accordingly the volume is not loud enough for me. I have to turn it up past the pre determined max volume, on all sorts of different recordings. Is this common?

Im also only running front speakers right now(and subs), HAT imagine l61-2. I would like to think with these speakers I could crank it up pretty loud.

you didn't mention if you used a test tone? what frequency? and what level did you use? also the music your listening to has a recorded level whats your stereo reciever settings(bass/loud sub/bassboost ect.
