Setting Amp Gain!!! HELP

When making the bass, treble, etc. on the headunit 0 to set the amp gain with a DMM, do I make the sub level (volt level) 0 too? or do I leave that at max. I have an Alpine 9884 headunit and I've heard that anything below the max for the sub level attenuates the signal sent from the headunit to amp. I'm new to all this so thanks..

Mine goes from -6 to 6 so i set it to 0. Just set it in the middle of the range yours has so you can adjust it according to what your feeling that day

On the Alpine, the sub output @ 15 is the 0 level for it. Anything below 15 is a cut to the subwoofer channel's output!
