What do you trust more?

I'll keep this short and sweet, science tells many people "you are going to die from xxxx." and you live past/through it. science lies. I don't expect you to let this change your view (and I really don't care). but people always say "science is based on fact." when any scientist will tell you NOTHING CAN BE PROVEN definitively. but I've argued this before and am not in the mood to do it again, carry on //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/popcorn.gif.32dd9e22fd77e77bc3c907062768fcd2.gif
Science doesn't tell you "you are going to die from xxxx". Frankly, science doesn't know that with any certainty, and anyone who claims such is lying to you/being unscientific. What science IS likely to tell you is that based on your condition and the results of testing, the median result is x. That doesn't mean that it is the guaranteed result, because we just don't have the complete knowledge of the human body to make such claims. Unfortunately, most people don't understand this simple concept of diagnosis and believe that a miracle happens if someone gets healthy (though of course no credit is given to god when someone of good health drops dead).

May I say also that there need be no contradiction between science and a deistic sort of god; though I think it is unnecessarily complicated and an illogical position, there is nothing inconsistent in holding the ideas of a natural world composed of laws and a god who created it. The question at hand, though, is whether science or the bible is more reliable for truth claims, and I think it is pretty clear which holds the upper hand on that subject.

science doesn't know ANYTHING for certain, but it guesses really good by experience and experimentation. But people give science the credit for gravity.

Science is how we came to understand gravity as well as we do right now. Tell me how the bible advanced our understanding of gravity.

I agree that science doesn't know anything for certain (it has some inductive aspects); it is, however, capable of establishing ideas that are so probable that it would be absurd to hold a contrary position.

Science doesn't necessarily get credit for gravity, it just explains it. And it's more than likely that Science can tell you whether or not chlorophyll absorbs visible light.

it did not advance our understanding of gravity, but I personally believe its commandments as well as various ethical lessons are good to live by. but that's of course my personal belief

Well, you believe that the commandments and ethical lessons are good to live by, but you didn't answer the question. Do you trust science or the bible?

Science can't explain shit, even if we are a direct result of evolution, it doesn't mean there isn't a creator behind the universe.
The argument of evolution is completely separate from the argument of a creator/first cause. Whether or not there is a god has no bearing on the evolutionary process that has been taking place.

Sure, we can accept what we've discovered certain things about the natural world and that there was some sort of being that was behind it all. In that sense, science and god are completely compatible.

When religion begins to make specific claims about the natural world that are directly opposed to what the best evidence indicates, then there is a contradiction between science and that specific religious claim. There, I will go with the evidence over what I consider to be a very unreliable account.

One question I would pose to you: is the burden of proof on someone to prove that a claim is false, or for the claim to be proven as true?
